Jamie Spencer would like to ride Jack Hobbs in the Derby

SPORTSBOOK ODDS

In the Derby the conditions are going to play a big part in it. Jack Hobbs was very impressive when he worked on the track for the Breakfast With The Stars morning. He was very well balanced. A little bit more rain would have helped him. If you were asking me who I’d like to ride in the race I would choose him. He has less questions to answer stamina-wise than Golden Horn. William Buick may have got lucky as he won the Dante on Golden Horn and now he’s getting on Jack Hobbs because Godolphin’s bought him. I think Jack Hobbs will be hard to beat. I was interested to see that Ryan Moore had decided to ride Giovanni Canaletto. He’s got cheekpieces on. My gut feeling is that they are throwing anything they have at the wall and hoping it will stick. If I could ride on it would be Jack Hobbs for me.

We could do with a superstar. It would be great of one of these could win by three or four lengths so then we’d have something to look forward to for the rest of the summer.

In the Coronation Cup you would say Dolniya on form is the one to beat but she’s been to Dubai and back and these trips can take more out of young horses than people think particularly a mare. For that reason I’d side with Flintshire as he’s been to Hong Kong, Breeders Cup, he’s been everywhere. You can set your clock by him. He runs to a really high rating every time and has been unlucky that he often finds one too good.

I ride Canny Style in the first at Doncaster for Kevin Ryan. His two year olds have been running well . They ‘ve all been placed or there or thereabouts with a few first time out winners. Canny Style is a Canford Cliffs filly. I haven’t sat on her but I don’t think she’s too bad so will be interesting to see how she goes.

I’m on Lamps of Heaven in the Maiden at 4.15 and she should have a great chance. All she has to do is run to about 70 and that should be enough to win this.  Foolaad is probably the biggest danger.

In the last at 5.40pm I ride Oracolo. I like him. I rode him in his first race at Newmarket this season and he could a little but tired. I rode work on him on Wednesday morning and he seems to have stepped forward a good bit on that first run. I expect him to be there or thereabouts and he’s probably my best chance of a winner on the day.
