Speaking after the victory over Hull KR, Talanoa said: “I felt I owed my team-mates a good performance.

“Personally I hold myself accountable for my performances. I owed KR a good performance too. It’s awesome to score a hat-trick in the derby. To get the two points as well is a special feeling.

“I had to turn up and play this week. Everyone was really focused across the pitch and were on their game.”

Widnes, meanwhile, ran out 38-16 winners over Salford on Magic Weekend, and had a hat-trick hero themselves, in Kevin Brown, who is evens in the anytime scorer market.

Vikings coach Betts talked up his skipper’s performance following the victory and will be hoping for more of the same against the Humberside outfit.

“We’re competing against sides around us at the moment, which makes these matches really important,” said the Widnes coach, Denis Betts. “We need to keep building and keep going because we’re putting a good run together.

“Kevin’s enjoying playing at the moment, and the platform we’re laying around him really helps.”

Meanwhile, Patrick Ah Van also crossed for a brace in Newcastle, and is 8/1 to breach the in-goal area first in the match.
