Although Southampton, 12/1 with Coral to finish in the Premier League top four next term, have brought in Juanmi, Cedric Soares and Maarten Stekelenburg in the transfer market, and while manager Ronald Koeman suggesting that Manchester United overpaid for Memphis Depay, he did admit that the Saints tried to land him last year.

“My brother Erwin has the same agent, so we tried to bring him to Southampton, but he wanted to stay for one more year at PSV,” he said. “When United went in for him, we knew at Saints that we had no chance. When they come, we have no chance.”

Therefore, Coral take a look at five other foreign footballers who they could bring to the Premier League.

Jordy Clasie
A Koeman favourite and labelled the “Dutch Xavi”, Clasie possesses all the traits to be a success at Southampton. Currently at Feyenoord, he would fit right in at the Saints and would be a suitable replacement for Morgan Schneiderlin, who is widely tipped to leave.

Nikolas N’Koulou
The 25-year-old centre back was a key component of Marseille’s fourth place finish in Ligue 1 last season and is at the ideal age to advance his career. While Southampton are pushing to retain the services of Toby Alderweireld, the Belgian has a number of clubs interested in his services. Cameroon international N’Koulou has just as much potential and would fit right in.

Juan Quintero
It could well be the right time for Porto’s Colombian attacking midfielder to move to a more competitive league after falling out of favour. At only 22, Quintero has a number of qualities that can light up the English top-flight and he is more than capable of forging an effective relationship with last summer’s new signing Dusan Tadic, as well as Eljero Elia who arrived in January.

Marco Benassi
Apparently, the south coast club have already made a £5.7m offer for the co-owned Inter Milan and Torino midfielder, who would link up with compatriot Graziano Pelle if he made the move.

Giannelli Imbula
Saints are already said to be tracking the talented French midfielder, though face competition from Spurs with any fee said to be in the region of £15m. He would be a more direct replacement for Schneiderlin if he leaves and Southampton would be acquiring a quality player who, like N’Koulou above, could join the Marseille exodus.
