It has been 27 years since that famous Marco van Basten strike at the 1988 European Championship, as the Dutchman went on to net five goals on his way to helping the Netherlands claim a trophy triumph in West Germany.

On the big stage, this deadly Dutchman delivered, thunderously rifling home from a tight angle on the volley in the final, giving the Clockwork Orange a jubilant 1-0 victory.

Relive that sensational strike right here, on its 27th anniversary, and enjoy five other incredible goals from Dutch stars of the past and present.

Robin van Persie
Manchester United hitman Van Persie kicked kicked off what soon became a stunning 5-1 romp over then-world champions Spain, with this acrobatic header at the 2014 World Cup.

Under the management of current United boss Louis van Gaal, and assisted perfectly by club and international teammate Daley Blind, the clinical striker headed home sensationally. He will hope for further goals like this next season and the Red Devils are 5/1 for the 2015/16 Premier League title.

Dennis Bergkamp
Known for his amazing solo goals for both Arsenal and the Netherlands, Bergkamp gracefully plucked a lofted through ball down from mid-air, skilfully turned his opposition and fired home clinically at the 1998 World Cup in France.

See that sublime strike right here, and listen to the original Dutch commentary from Jack van Gelder. Goosebumps.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst
It’s fair to say that this experienced full back was not regarded for his prolific displays in front of goal, but at the 2010 World Cup the former Dutch captain unbelievably found the top corner against Uruguay.

Watch Van Bronckhorst’s sixth international goal which gave the keeper literally no chance of stopping!

Wesley Sneijder
Despite scoring on a smaller international stage than many of the others on our list, Sneijder’s superb effort is in no way deprived of quality.

The Galatasaray midfielder plays a quick one-two before unleashing a lofted volley against Austria to put his side 3-1 up in a friendly encounter. Watch it here!

Mark van Bommel
Another Dutch midfielder, but one that was more famed for his tough tackling and aggressive approach, rather than scoring goals of the spectacular variety.

Nobody told Van Bommel that, though, when the former AC Milan and Bayern Munich let an unstoppable effort fly in 2001. Such an incredible strike was scored against no other than England, with Nigel Martyn never thwarting the Dutchman’s long-range thunderbolt.

The Netherlands are currently struggling in their attempts to secure a place at Euro 2016, and Guus Hidink’s Oranje are 11/8 to win Group A.
