Coral’s Rumour Reel: Manchester United line up Cavani-Di Maria swap

| 28.06.2015

Manchester United could be set to seal a deal for PSG centre forward Edinson Cavani, in a transaction that would see Angel Di Maria move in the opposite direction in a straight swap.

With the search for a frontman becoming increasingly frustrating, after being told Tottenham’s Harry Kane isn’t for sale, watching Mario Mandzukic move to Juventus and priced out of bidding for Christian Benteke, Louis van Gaal could be set to turn his attentions to France.

The Uruguayan represents the kind of quality that United need in attack and would be first choice in a central striking berth. At the French champions, he plays second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Di Maria, meanwhile, has failed to fit in at Old Trafford; possibly a blame that lies mainly with Van Gaal, who couldn’t find a system which accommodated him effectively. PSG are known admirers of the Argentine and could be tempted to take him in a swap.

Staying with United, Van Gaal, has also, according to reports, sanctioned a bid for Everton right back Seamus Coleman, who is valued at £20m, while, he could also make a bid for Ajax goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen, who played under him at the World Cup for the Netherlands. This would also indicate that David De Gea is on his way to Real Madrid.

Elsewhere, Liverpool have reportedly bid £15m for Real Madrid’s 25-year-old Spanish midfielder Asier Illarramendi, as manager Brendan Rodgers compiles a squad that is strong enough to finish in the Champions League places next season.

Compared to Xabi Alonso, there is no doubt that he would improve the Reds, while adding to their already impressive list of recruits this summer.

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman is prepared for any potential loss of French midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin. The Dutchman has lined up a £10m bid for Feyenoord’s Jordy Clasie dubbed the “Dutch Xavi”, and is also tracking Lille’s Idrissa Gueye who would cost in the region of £7m. Both players are 24 and 25 respectively.
