‘Cole the goal’ tells Man Utd to swoop for Sergio Aguero!
Usually such rumours that 5/1 Premier League chances with Coral Manchester United should sign Sergio Aguero from bitter rivals City (5/2) is pub talk, but former Red Devils legend Andy Cole has made the bold request to Louis van Gaal.
“If I was being cheeky, I would give City £60m for Sergio Aguero because Aguero fit is the best centre forward in the Premier League. Fit, firing, he’s unbelievable,” Cole said.
“You can imagine him playing alongside Wayne Rooney. It wouldn’t be bad would it?”
Any move by Man Utd for the Argentine, who is currently with his nation for the Copa America, would be outrageously ambitious, especially given that City would claim to now be the bigger club in Manchester.
However, Cole’s comments did spark an immediate response from Aguero, who said: “The truth is I’m very happy [at Man City]. I’m enjoying these four years that I’ve had, and there are still many more years to come. I’m very happy.”
While Cole’s bold remarks may have no merit, United certainly are scouring Europe for a top forward, as the likes of Robin van Persie and Javier Hernandez’s futures at the club are in doubt. On top of that, Chelsea target Radamel Falcao has gone back to parent club Monaco and captain Wayne Rooney is seemingly more suited playing in a role further back on the pitch.
There has been talk that France international Karim Benzema could join Old Trafford from Real Madrid, especially if David de Gea makes his highly-expected move the other way.
Cole, who spent a season on City’s books too, also had words to say about that potential transfer, saying: “I like [Benzema]. He’s a very good player and played at the highest level for numerous amount of years.
Before adding that he could work with Rooney as well: “He’s done it at international level and [you] look at that and say that could definitely work and him and Rooney.
“Whoever comes to Man United as a centre forward is going to be under a hell of a lot of pressure,” Cole, who scored 121 goals in under 300 games for United, added.
“The fans want to see, that’s the X-Factor, for people to say wow. Man United has always been that kind of club, always want big name players to come here and fans get buoyant about it.”
