£20,000 bet on Derby favourite sees odds shorten

Coral has trimmed the odds on Golden Horn winning Saturday’s Investec Derby to 13-8 (from 7-4) after the firm took a bet of £20,000 on the favourite from a customer in a Northampton betting shop today.  By contrast Zawraq remains easy to back and is out to 6-1 (from 5-1), with Jack Hobbs splitting the pair at 5-1.

“This is the biggest single bet we have taken so far on this year’s Investec Derby, and has strengthened Golden Horn’s position at the head of our betting, while Zawraq backers face an anxious 24 hours to see if the colt will be declared for the Epsom Classic,” said Coral’s David Stevens.

Looking at Friday’s Investec Oaks, Coral’s market is headed by the Qipco 1,000 Guineas heroine Legatissimo at 11-4 (from 5-2), ahead of the well-backed Crystal Zvezda at 3-1 and Jack Naylor, 6-1.

“As expected Ryan Moore will maintain his Classic winning partnership with Legatissimo at Epsom, but although the pairing remain at the head of the betting, there has been significant support for Crystal Zvezda since her Newbury trial success, and she could yet start favourite for the Investec Oaks,” said Coral’s David Stevens.
