York Preview: Marygate Fillies’ Stakes (14.10)

Athas An Bhean scored impressively on her debut and looks the answer to a wide-open renewal of the Marygate Fillies’ Stakes at York (14.10).
The two-year-old, who is trained in Ireland by Adrian Keatley, was well-backed before romping to a four length success in a 5f contest at Cork on soft ground.
Athas An Bhean showed plenty of dash to race in second place until being produced to take up the running at the furlong marker and quickening clear to score with tons in hand.
It was a visually taking performance, and one which makes Athas An Bhean a major player in this Listed 5f contest.
Although now tackling much faster ground, there is no reason why the daughter of Dubai Destination should not be as effective or even better suited by it.
The booking of William Buick to do the steering also catches the eye, and everything points to a big run.
There are plenty of dangers in a field full of potential improvers, including Delizia and Sadie Babes.
The former is trained by Mark Johnston and justified heavy market support when making a winning debut on the Tapeta surface at Wolverhampton last month.
Delizia clearly knew her job that day, and after showing lots of early zip found plenty to win going away by 1 1/2 lengths.
The daughter of Dark Angel now has to prove she is as effective on turf, but is bred to do so and with further progress on the cards looks a major player for a yard that appear to have a a useful team of two-year-olds this season.
Sadie Babes is trained by the in-form Richard Fahey and shaped with plenty of promise when runner-up on her debut at Musselburgh.
The daughter of Iffraaj stuck to the task well to be beaten two lengths by a useful looking sort in Furiant, despte showing distinct signs of inexperience and running green.
Sadie Babes showed have learnt’t plenty from that run, and her handler loves nothing more than to have winners at his local track.
