Slumping Rossoneri ready for Roma in San Siro encounter

AC Milan have endured a stunning domestic decline this season; amid severe pressure on current coach Filippo Inzaghi and a potential club takeover bid, the stuttering Serie A strugglers must host high-fliers Roma.

The San Siro side have incredibly dropped to 11th in the Italian league standings, having won just two of their last 10 outings, and are on a shocking three-match losing streak. Their current boss Inzaghi has tried to use his club status to revive such an ungraceful downfall, but things look bleak in Milan, with the club 11/4 with Coral to overcome Roma on home soil.

In a complete contrast of form and fortunes, the Giallorossi were this season’s closest challengers to eventual Serie A champions Juventus, and a victory on their travels to the San Siro (19/20) would almost assure an automatic qualification for the Champions League in second place.

Rudi Garcia’s Stadio Olimpico outfit have been impressive on the road this current campaign, having been toppled just once in their previous 12 away matches. Although, a glimmer of hope for Milan is their recent home record, as they have lost on only one occasion on home turf since January.

Despite their troubles during such a terrible term, former Roma defender Philippe Mexes believes the only way is up for the Italian giants, as they have one eye on next season.

“We really can`t do much worse. We have to stay united. We know the fans are not happy and it’s up to us to get them back on our side,” stated Mexes, who spent seven years at Milan’s next opponents.

“They [Roma] are fighting for second place, are a united side and have a fine coach. After a bit of a wobble, they are doing well again with two wins in a row.”

With the rulings on loan players facing their parent clubs less strict in Italy, Milan can call upon Roma-owned marksman Mattia Destro for this home clash, and the Italy international is 13/5 to net anytime.

The visitors leapfrogged Lazio into second place with a recent 2-0 triumph over in-form Genoa, with Seydou Doumbia and Alessandro Florenzi sealing three points. Italian attacker Florenzi has now struck in two consecutive fixtures and is 11/5 to make it three on the bounce in Milan.

Meanwhile, Inzaghi’s strugglers will hope Japanese playmaker Keisuke Honda can rediscover his start-of-season form, having netted six times in his opening eight Serie A appearances last year. The set-piece specialist is 8/1 to open proceedings in his latest home outing.

Milan have virtually nothing to play for during the campaign run-in, but they could potentially scupper their opponents’ chances of an automatic Champions League position for next season with a home triumph.
