Premier League final day: Saints seeking fine finish against Man City

| 24.05.2015

Manchester City (odds-on at 4/7 with Coral to win) welcome Southampton to the Etihad in their final Premier League fixture of the season and are already assured of second spot, but Ronald Koeman and co still have work to do.

Sitting just one adrift of sixth place Spurs, who hold the last Europa League space, the Saints (9/2 for victory) must triumph and hope for a favourable result as Tottenham tussle with Everton if they are to qualify for continental competition automatically.

A draw at 3/1 could still be enough if Mauricio Pochettino’s men lose, as the south coast club boast a superior goal difference, but Southampton will be gunning to end their surprising season in style, having surpassed many pundits’ expectations to finish in the top half of the table.

A recent slump in form was rectified by a 6-1 drubbing of Aston Villa last time out, so Koeman’s men are generously priced at 8/1 to put three or more past the Sky Blues, who have little but pride to play for.

All three forward threats Sadio Mane, Shane Long and Graziano Pelle were on target against the Villans, with magnificent Mane hitting the Premier League’s fastest ever hat-trick.

Customers can back the Senegal starlet at 14/1 to bag a brace or better again, or alternatively at an excellent 11/4 in the anytime market, while sharpshooter Long and poacher Pelle are priced at 12/1 and 8/1 to net first and last respectively.

Wideman Jay Rodriguez is also in contention to make his return, on the same field where he sustained a long-term injury last season, after an extended spell on the sidelines, and is 10/3 to be on target anytime.

As for City, they could well take their foot off the gas, but with the pressure off the blue half of Manchester have clocked up five victories on the trot, grabbing a sensational 16 goals across those games.

So, the Sky Blues, who smashed Southampton 3-0 at St Mary’s earlier this season and have slain their south coast guests on both of their previous trips to the Northwest, are great value at 23/10 to win to nil.

Rumour has it Nigerian striking starlet Kelechi Iheanacho could be set to make his senior debut for the Citizens, with Manuel Pellegrini praising the youngster. “[He’s] a very important player for us in the future,” the City coach said. “It depends on the way he takes this profession, but I think he’s a good talent.”

Midfield dynamo Yaya Toure terrorised Swansea City last time out with two and is 7/1 to open the scoring, having done so in his past two starts against the Saints. However, the most tempting odds on offer come from Coral’s matchday special (maximum stake £20), which features Premier League Golden Boot winner-in-waiting, Sergio Aguero, at 9/2 to net two or more goals, having already hit 25 this term.

Top betting tip: Aguero @ 9/2 to score two or more in the matchday special
