Coral now make PSV Eindhoven’s Eredivisie title winning boss Phillip Cocu their 6/4 favourite to succeed Dick Advocaat as Sunderland head coach, after Sam Allardyce reportedly distanced himself from the vacancy.

Big Sam, who recently left West Ham United, is still a 4/1 shot to be the next Black Cats boss. Slavisa Jokanovic is a 10/1 chance to take the reins at the Stadium of Light, following his exit from newly-promoted Watford.

While those three are front-runners to take on Sunderland for next season, ex-Rangers manager Ally McCoist (also 10/1) is the only former player linked with the job.

Slaven Bilic remains odds-on 8/13 favourite to take over from Allardyce at the Hammers, having left Turkish giants Besiktas last week.

Bielsa 2

It’s Marseille manager Marcelo Bielsa who has been cut into 9/4 second-favourite, though, with the maverick ex-Argentina and Athletic Bilbao boss set to leave the Velodrome.

Steve McClaren is still odds-on 1/2 favourite to be next Newcastle United manager, with former Swansea City coach Michael Laudrup some way behind him in the betting at 6/1. Arsenal playing legend and Manchester City reserve boss Patrick Vieira is a surprise candidate at the same price.

Following Jokanovic leaving Vicarage Road, it appears to be a two-horse race for the Hornets vacancy. Former Valencia boss Quique Sanchez Flores is odds-on at 4/5 to take charge, while ex-Chelsea and Schalke coach Roberto Di Matteo is a 2/1 chance, having resigned from his post at the Gelsenkirchen club.

Di Matteo

Blues cult hero Di Matteo has Premier League experience, so could also appeal to West Ham (8/1 to take them on) and Sunderland (10/1).

Outside of the top-flight, Ian Holloway appears to have a choice of two former clubs to return to, with both Blackpool (5/1), who were relegated from the Championship, and losing League Two play-off semi-finalists Plymouth Argyle (also 5/1) both looking for new managers.

Sheffield United, another to endure play-off pain but in League One, are looking at Nigel Adkins (odds-on 4/7 favourite), who has three third-tier promotions on his CV, and Bradford City boss Phil Parkinson (7/4) to replace Nigel Clough.
