Jamie Spencer looks ahead to a busy day with six rides at York and Newmarket

I ride Lexington Abbey in the opener at 2.10pm. He was very disappointing last time. He didn’t show anything. So they’re dropping him back to five and I’ll get out of the gates and go forward on him and see where that takes us. But he needs to step up on that last run. He ran well on his first start, so it’s a bit of a watching brief with him.

I’m really looking forward to the Dante at 3.15pm. It’s as good a Dante as we’ve had in a long time. Elm Park was a very good two year old. He’s got the right profile coming into this race having won the Racing Post Trophy just like plenty of Dante winners in the last decade or so. You couldn’t but be impressed by the way Jack Hobbs won last time but I was looking at the form yesterday and he has probably achieved less than True Story had at this stage last year when he’d won his maiden and the Fielden Stakes easily.  We’re all suckers for an impressive winner. The two things that would give you confidence in Jack Hobbs is number one, Frankie Dettori  is staying with him, and not riding Golden Horn,  and number two, every man and his dog wanted to buy him after his Sandown race but Rachel Hood and the partners have held on to him. That shows the regard that John Gosden must hold him in as they would have had big offers and it’s hard not to sell. It’s clear that the belief is there in Jack Hobbs but he’s got to do it on the track. I was very impressed with Golden Horn at Newmarket. He raced outside and didn’t have a smooth trip yet still won easily. It’s one of those races where any one of five could win. It’s a great race to watch.

I ride Strath Burn in the 4.20pm. I’m looking forward to riding him. He needed the run last time. He got very tired. We’re getting him back out again fifteen days later which should suit him well. He’s got a great chance on the ratings. He’s got Tendu to beat but I can give her a run for her money. He’ll have improved a lot for that last run and hopefully the ground will have dried out a bit. Charlie’s very happy with him. Sometimes when they work so well at home they find it hard to reach full fitness because they are doing the work so easily. He’ll strip a good bit fitter and be harder for the race.

I then go to Newmarket in the evening. I’m on Every Instinct for David Simcock in the 6.25pm. He’s having his first run. He’s quite babyish and David’s always improve for their first start. But he should run a nice race. He’s very well bred on his dam side so it will be interesting to see how he performs. The John Gosden horse Fallen For A Star will be hard to beat but otherwise it looks a weak race.

I then ride Hundi for Charlie Hills in the 7.25pm. She’s got plenty of experience and it doesn’t look the strongest race. Sir Michael Stoute’s Angel Vision could be the main danger. She’s out of Islington by Oasis Dream. She’s got a lovely pedigree and is the big danger. Hundi didn’t run to her best last time at Newmarket but hopefully she can go well again tonight.

Gilded Lili is my mount in the 8.00pm. She needs to step up. She’s looked moderate so far. I haven’t ridden her but just looking at the form she needs to pull it together. In the 8.30pm I ride Oracolo for David Simcock. He’s a nice horse. I rode work on him ten days ago and he felt good. I’d be surprised if his official rating of 75 is the limit of his ability and he’ll like the ground. He’ll improve for the run but he’s no back number tonight.
