Haydock preview: Timeform Jury Stakes (14.35)

Breton Rock caught the eye on his seasonal reappearance, and looks to hold solid claims of landing the Group 3 Timeform Jury Stakes on a cracking seven-race card at Haydock (14.35).

The David Simcock trained gelding is an ultra-consistent sort who has an impressive strike rate having won seven of his 15 starts.
Breton Rock also has course and distance winning form to his name, and has made the frame on six other occasions.

They include an excellent short-head second in this contest 12 months ago, after which the son of Bahamian Bounty went on to land a Group 2 contest at Newbury in game fashion.

Breton Rock rounded off the campaign with a solid third in another Group 2 contest at Newmarket, and there was lots to like about his comeback run earlier in the month at Newbury when seventh of 16 to Night Of Thunder in the Group 1 Lockinge Stakes.

After being held-up well off the pace, the five-year-old made good headway to from home and kept on nicley to be beaten 4 1/4 lengths without being unduly knocked about.

It was an effort full of promise, and Breton Rock looks sure to come on for the run.

This also represents a drop down in class, and another plus is that Breton Rock acts on all types on going and can be relied upon to give it his best shot.

Cable Bay finished two places in front of Breton Rock in the Lockinge, and is an obvious danger.

The Charlie Hills trained four-year-old finished with a rattle to be beaten 1 3/4 lengths, and had previously looked an unlucky loser when third in a Group 3 contest at the Curragh on his seasonal reappearance.

A repeat of those efforts are sure to see the colt go close, but he has only one win to his name and that came on his second start as a juvenile two years ago.

It could be that Cable Bay is difficult to win with and needs everything to drop right, and I think he may struggle to confirm the Lockinge form with Breton Rock, given that he had the benefit of a run under his belt going into the contest.
