Goodwood preview: Mr Singh can collect in Cocked Hat Stakes

SPORTSBOOK ODDS

Mr Singh looked a smart prospect when winning his maiden, and can take the step up into Listed company in his stride to land the 1m 3f Cocked Hat Stakes on today’s seven-race card at Goodwood (16.00).

The colt, who is trained by the in-form John Gosden, confirmed the promise of his third on his debut at Kempton when cosily landing what is traditionally a strong maiden at Newbury last month.

After being slowly away, Mr Singh came with a sustained run on the outside a furlong from home before staying on strongly under a hands and heels ride from jockey Frankie Dettori to get up close home and beat Scottish by a neck.

The runner-up and third home Fabricate have both gone on to score since to give the form a solid look, and it is a race which connections of Mr Singh had won the previous year with the very smart Group 2 winner Eagle Top.

Mr Singh has a similar profile, and the well-bred son of High Chapparal looks open to stacks of improvement.

Gosden also has a good record in the race, having saddled three winners since 2009, and Mr Singh has the right credentials to further enhance it and land the spoils before going on to even better things.

Endless Time won in the style of a highly promising filly on her seasonal reappearance, and looks thrown-in at the weights under a 6lb penalty in the 1m 4f handicap (16.35).

Lingfield Good Friday

The Charlie Appleby trained three-year-old made a mockery of an opening handicap mark of 76 when cruising home to slam Justice Belle by eight lengths over 1m 2f at Salisbury.

That was a second success in three starts for the daughter of Sea The Stars, and one which suggested she needed keeping firmly on side.

It’s no surprise to see connections turn her out quickly under a 6lb penalty, as Endless Times is due to go up 12lb in future races.

That means she is effectively 6lb well-in at the weights, and is going to make her very hard to beat.

Endless Times should also relish the step up in trip, and with the prospect of plenty more to come looks a worthy favourite to land the hat-trick.
