With Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal recently stating that the club are set to spend big again this summer, and also witness several departures, the rumours have been in overdrive regarding the next stars to arrive at Old Trafford.

To start off, reports have emerged that Benfica’s wicked wingman Nicolas Gaitan is set for a switch to the red half of Manchester, with the Portuguese press claiming a £21m deal has been struck between clubs. The Argentine attacker has long been linked with the Red Devils and rumours have circulated that the move could be announced after Benfica’s Portuguese Cup final against Maritimo on Friday.

In a further boost of their forward ranks, United (9/2 with Coral to win next season’s league title) could also rival Arsenal for the summer signature of Real Madrid and France international marksman Karim Benzema. Both Premier League clubs are set to engage in a bidding war for the ferocious La Liga striker, with his services valued at around £40m.

Elsewhere, a former Red Devils starlet has ruled out a return to Old Trafford, with sought-after Juventus midfield maestro Paul Pogba declaring he wants to ply his trade in Spain, accordion to reports in his home nation of France.

Meanwhile, across the Mersey, Liverpool are reportedly lining up a bid for Aston Villa’s star frontman Christian Benteke, after the Belgium international’s clinical displays in helping keep the Villans in the top-flight this season. Although, it is believed the Reds will hold off making a move until after the striker features in the FA Cup final against Arsenal at Wembley.

The Merseysiders’ Europa League rivals, Tottenham are also keen to bolster their attacking ranks, with a swoop for Burnley’s out-of-contract forward Danny Ings potentially on the cards. England Under-21 international Ings is set for a big summer with his country, and Mauricio Pochettino could look to partner the in-form sharpshooter with his current centre forward Harry Kane next term.

Back to Old Trafford, and reported German target Ilkay Gundogan’s future at Borussia Dortmund seems to coming to an end, with the club’s executive Hans-Joachim Watzke confirming he will leave this summer. Gundogan has also attracted interest from clubs such as Barcelona and bitter rivals Bayern Munich.

In the capital, east London outfit West Ham United could see their towering targetman Andy Carroll depart from Upton Park in the coming months, with former Newcastle United hitman claiming he is keen on a return to his boyhood club.

Meanwhile, the Hammers could see a young incomer as well, in the form Southend United’s 21-year-old goalkeeper Daniel Bentley, with the club aiming to boost their rearguard.

Finally, Chelsea midfielder Oriol Romeu has confirmed he will not be extending his loan spell at Stuttgart, with a return to the Blues seemingly imminent.
