With the football season almost over, Coral’s football traders have released figures, providing information on the teams, players and selections that served customers well over the course of the season.

Boxing Day downfall
It wasn’t a Happy Christmas after all for Coral, having lost a total of £4m; however there was a sliver lining.

Everton’s 1-0 loss at home to Stoke saved the bookmaker a potentially further £10m payout. The top 12 popular team selections on Boxing Day were:

1: Manchester City @ 1.44
2: Tottenham @ 2.00
3: Liverpool @ 1.83
4: Manchester United @ 1.40
5: Arsenal @ 1.25
6: Bristol City @ 1.62
7: Bournemouth @ 1.67
8: Chelsea @ 1.30
9: Everton @ 1.72
10: Norwich @ 1.62
11: Southampton @ 2.00
12: Preston @ 1.67

As highlighted above, 11 out 12 of these won, with the Potters saving Coral from what would have been an extortionate payout.

January bookies blues
However, less than a month later, Coral faced what was to be their biggest payout of the season, when 12 out of 12 of the main selections won.

1: Chelsea @ 1.53
2: Man Utd @ 1.62
3: Tottenham @ 1.57
4: Wolves @ 1.53
5: Middlesbrough @ 1.62
6: Liverpool @ 1.83
7: Ipswich @ 2.10
8: Bournemouth @ 1.83
9: Shrewsbury @ 1.40
10: Bristol City @ 2.10
11: Swindon @ 2.00
12: Watford @ 1.57

Every one of these teams won at combined odds of 652/1, with Christian Eriksen’s last minute goal for Tottenham being the most expensive last minute goal in Coral history, costing in excess of £10m in payouts.

The top two consistent performers of teams who almost always won throughout the season, were Chelsea and Bristol City, so congratulations if you were one of the insightful customers who chose these most weeks!

Harry Kane king
The worst run Coral had on a player was Kane who, between December and January was the first scorer in games four out of six Premier League matches, at an average price of 9/2. He really proved a punter’s favourite.

Coral PR Manager, John Hill said: “Coral’s first knockout blow of the season came on Boxing Day where 11 of the 12 most popular football selections on that given day were all successful leaving us with a £4 million pay-out. It could have been much worse though if Everton had not slipped up at home to Stoke.

“Things got a lot worse in January though as 12 out of 12 of the most popular selections all obliged across the weekend at cumulative odds of 625/1. Things were looking bad at the 89th minute mark on that Saturday, however, when [Christian] Eriksen scored to give Spurs a 2-1 win, we were dealt with a £10 million payout so it is fair to say that is one of the most expensive last minute goals in Coral’s history,” added Hill.
