Coral suggest five replacements for Dani Alves at Barcelona

| 02.04.2015

Barcelona may be strong odds-on 1/6 favourites with Coral to claim La Liga back from Atletico Madrid this term, but have missed out to their El Clasico foes Real Madrid in the race for Brazil right back Danilo’s signature.

The Porto player was one name mooted as a replacement for outgoing compatriot Dani Alves, who is out of contract in Catalonia this summer. As a result of this, our football experts have got their heads together and assessed who they think could be Barca’s next right back. See our selections below:

Serge Aurier
A loan move to Barcelona’s upcoming Champions League quarter-final opponents PSG has not really worked out for Ivory Coast attacking outlet Aurier. Owned by Toulouse, he is out of contract there next summer and recently helped his country win the Africa Cup of Nations.

Footballers from that continent are no strangers to the Nou Camp, with the likes of Samuel Eto’o, Seydou Keita, Alex Song and Yaya Toure all turning out for Barca. Aurier, 22, represents a relatively cheap option as he is estimated to be valued in the region of €10m.

Hector Bellerin
When right back looked like being a problem position for Arsenal with both Mathieu Debuchy and Calum Chambers both injured, former La Masia youngster Bellerin stepped up to impress.

The 20-year-old has spent time in Barcelona’s youth set-up and is a local lad, so a return to his native Catalonia could be on the cards. Check out Bellerin’s first Gunners goal, which was the last in a 5-0 romp against Aston Vila, below:

Matteo Darmian
Torino’s prize asset is definitely defender Darmian, 25, who did an excellent job down the opposite flank on international duty for Italy against England again recently. Barca would face a battle against fellow European elites Bayern Munich and Manchester United to land this awesome Auzzrri prospect from the Bull.

Javier Manquillo
It’s clear a two-year loan deal from Atletico Madrid is not really working out for Manquillo at Liverpool, as he has not played in the Premier League in 2015 so far. Despite his links to both Atleti and Real, Barcelona could offer the 20-year-old an escape route from Anfield, following in the footsteps of Javier Mascherano and more recently Luis Suarez.

Pablo Zabaleta
Soccer - Barclays Premier League - Stoke City v Manchester City - Britannia Stadium

Argentina international Zabaleta, 30, has probably won all the trophies he can at Manchester City, and would be an experienced, energetic option for Barca over the next three years or so. Compatriots Lionel Messi and Mascherano are at the Nou Camp, and the Catalan giants are better equipped to win the Champions League, being this year’s 5/2 second-favourites.
