Premier League Darts Week 10: Sheffield sees Taylor v Barney II
Eight players remain in the Premier League after an enthralling Judgement Night that saw Kim Huybrechts and Peter Wright eliminated ahead of Week 10.
The highlight of the evening at Sheffield’s Motorpoint Arena will no doubt be Phil Taylor’s attempted revenge match against old foe Raymond van Barneveld.
Elsewhere, league leader Michael van Gerwen takes on Stephen Bunting, while James Wade and Dave Chisnall both face two battles, first against Adrian Lewis and Gary Anderson respectively, and then against each other.
Adrian Lewis v James Wade
Lewis (11/8 for victory with Coral) started Week 9 in the elimination zone, and was impressive in his win over Wright. Wade (also 11/8) lost last time out to Van Gerwen, but has a great record over Jackpot and should be able to defeat him again.
The duo drew, though, earlier in the league this season, and are priced at 10/3 to do so again.
Gary Anderson v Dave Chisnall
Chizzy (11/4) caused one of the shocks of the tournament to date, with a 7-2 thrashing of Anderson (8/11 odds-on favourite) in Week 5. But that didn’t hinder the Flying Scotsman’s following performances as he won the next three.
The duo are both on 13 points in the table, with Chisnall ahead on leg difference in second place, so a draw at a tempting 7/2 price is a likely outcome here.
Phil Taylor v Raymond van Barneveld
In terms of their overall head-to-heads, defending champion Barney’s thrilling 7-4 win over six-time winner Taylor (8/15) could have been seen as a shock too, but the Dutchman (7/2) seems to deliver most under pressure and in the bigger matches.
RVB gained another crucial result (draw) last week against Anderson to survive, and he is only three points off the play-off places with seven fixtures to go, but The Power should have enough to gain revenge here. Back a reverse 7-4 scoreline in favour of Taylor at 7/2.
Stephen Bunting v Michael van Gerwen
Bunting would have hoped to beat Huybrechts last time out, but his draw still puts him in a decent position to qualify for the semi-finals as he is two points behind in sixth place.
Van Gerwen is in such good form, though, that it is difficult to see him suffer his first defeat this Premier League, and his odds of 4/11 show he is the firm favourite for victory. MVG beat The Bullet (5/1 to win) 7-3 in Week 2, and is 7/2 to inflict that same scoreline on him once more.
Dave Chisnall v James Wade
After facing battles earlier in the evening, Chisnall (8/5) and Wade (6/5) face each other in the final match in Sheffield too. They drew in Week 3, and are a good price at 10/3 to share the spoils again.
