SPORTSBOOK ODDS

Ahead of the Premier League clash between Arsenal (odds-on 5/6 favourites) and Liverpool (3/1), Coral writers pick out six stand-out stars from past meetings that have caused their opponents trouble in the modern era.

Robbie Fowler – Hat-trick in successive seasons (1994/95 and 1995/96)
Liverpool youth graduate Fowler scored 11 goals against Arsenal for his boyhood club, with six of them coming early in his career in consecutive campaigns at Anfield.

The first treble came in August, 1994, in a 3-0 win, which was incidentally the fastest Premier League hat-trick in history, while the second was over a year later just before Christmas, with the Reds being 3-1 victors.

Watch Fowler’s record-breaking four minutes and 35 seconds of brilliance…

Thierry Henry – Hat-trick in 4-2 win at Highbury (2003/04)
During Arsenal’s Invincibles season, Liverpool threatened to break the Gunners unbeaten league record on Good Friday in early April, as they twice held the lead.

However, Henry made sure his side got back on track, after going out of both the Champions league and FA Cup the previous week, by hitting a terrific treble.

Relive the action…

Julio Baptista – Four-goal haul in 6-3 League Cup triumph (2006/07)
Big Brazilian Baptista was largely a flop for Arsenal during his season-long spell from Real Madrid, but he did enjoy playing in the League Cup, netting six times in the competition.

Four of those goals for the man nicknamed ‘the Beast’ came in the quarter-final against Liverpool in a classic encounter.

Here are highlights of the nine-goal game…

Peter Crouch – Perfect hat-trick in 4-1 win to gain revenge (2006/07)
After Liverpool lost three times to Arsenal earlier in the season (Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup), Crouch gave the Reds something to cheer in late March about as he hit the perfect hat-trick. He scored with both feet either side of a header.

See Crouch in his prime with this wonderful hat-trick…

Andrei Arshavin – Four shots, four goals in dramatic 4-4 result (2008/09)
The Gunners only managed four shots on target all day in this astonishing match in the Premier League in April, with Russian Arshavin netting from each of them.

Unfortunately for him, his form at the Gunners declined rapidly after this high point.

Watch Arshavin’s finest performance in an Arsenal shirt…

Martin Skrtel – The scourge of Arsenal in most recent league matches (2013/14 and 2014/15)
Defender Skrtel is an unlikely hero in terms of goals in this meeting, but the Slovakian centre back has three in his last two against the Gunners, with all of them being crucial.

He got his side rolling with two early strikes in an eventual 5-1 thrashing at Anfield last term, and he then grabbed a late equaliser earlier on this season. Unfortunately, Skrtel is suspended for the upcoming clash, but his side are 11/2 chances to keep a clean sheet without him.

Here, Skrtel rises above all to nod home in the 97th minute…
