Bookies fearing McIlroy gamble ahead of Masters
Rory McIlroy continues to be well backed to win the Masters this week, where he is available at 6-1 with leading bookmaker Coral ahead of the opening major of 2015. American Jordan Spieth is second best in the betting at 10-1, while defending champion Bubba Watson can be backed at 11-1.
The world number one is not the only player the bookmakers are fearing at Augusta as 14-time major winner Tiger Woods has also been popular with Coral, so much so that he has been cut into 33-1 (from 40-1) following heavy support today.
“The momentum behind Rory McIlroy in the betting has grown stronger which each day this week and he goes into the Masters as one of the best backed favourites for this tournament since Tiger Woods was dominating the sport,” said Coral’s John Hill.
“This will be the biggest price that Woods has ever gone off at for the Masters and many punters believe his price is far too big, despite his recent layoff from the sport,” added Hill.
