Wigan’s Wane wants refereeing consistency against Castleford

Wigan Warriors, no doubt smarting from their 22-20 defeat against Hull KR will be aiming to put things right against Castleford Tigers.
Shaun Wane’s men are odds-on at 4/9 with Coral for the win, and the coach has appealed for stronger officiating, after claiming his side were harshly treated last time out, adding that the RFL had admitted that some of the penalties his team conceded shouldn’t have been awarded.
“I spoke to the RFL, so it’s not concerning me any more,” Wane said.
“I’ll always be into my players about being squeaky clean… but I’ve no concerns about that now.”
While he understands that referees must find it more difficult at hostile grounds, he has appealed for greater consistency across the board.
“I don’t think it’s personal against Wigan. Like players, the refs are finding their feet, and finding it hard to be consistent,” he continued.
“I don’t ring up Jon Sharp whingeing, I want them to be fair for everyone. You need strong referees. It was the same as when we went to Catalans last year, it was a fight-fest and James Child was strong.
“I have refereed, so I know what a tough job it is.”
The Warriors will be boosted by news that Joe Burgess is in the squad and likely to start, so having crossed the whitewash last time out, he is 7/1 to do so first against the Tigers.
It is winger Joel Tomkins who tops the charts, however, with three tries for the club so far this campaign and as a result, he is a decent 13/8 chance in the anytime market, while last season’s club top scorer Josh Charnley, with 19 is 6/1 to breach the in-goal area first, having just one try to his account so far.
Hosts Castleford gave a good account of themselves against St Helens, going down 21-14 and Justin Carney who scored two second half tries is 8/1 to cross first. Michael Shenton, who finished joint with his opposite winger on 17 tries last season, is yet to open his account this term, so he will relish doing it against than the current Super League runners-up. At 7/4 to cross anytime, these are decent odds.
