Tottenham tracking Lyon’s leading scorer Alexandre Lacazette

| 06.03.2015

Tottenham, 13/2 for a top four Premier League finish, reportedly have Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette on their list of striker targets to swoop for this summer.

The Kids academy product has hit the headlines after grabbing 25 goals across all competitions this campaign, with his strikes helping Lyon top Ligue 1.

Versatile Lacazette can also operate on either wing, and the pacey and powerful frontman’s skillset could certainly complement Harry Kane, and provide support for the starlet, who has often saved Spurs with his 24 goals this term.

Spurs are supposedly ready to offload controversial centre forward Emmanuel Adebayor and misfiring Spaniard Roberto Soldado to raise funds for a new attacking acquisition, with both players rumoured to have run out of White Hart Lane chances.

Both Manchester City and Liverpool have been linked with an interest in Lacazette, so Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping his side can secure European football for next season and convince the much sought-after striker to opt for north London.

Lacazette is tipped for a future at the top and has already been capped five times for France, but may feel he has to leave his hometown club to cement his place in Les Bleus’ starting XI.

Transfer speculation seems not to have gone down too well at Lyon, who are understandably keen to hang on to their best academy graduates, as they continue to challenge rich kids PSG for Ligue 1 dominance.

Lacazette recently gave an interview on his future, stating: “My aim is now to do my best this season and at the end of the season we shall see.

“I know that several clubs are watching me, but I will think about whether I want to leave or stay later on and then we shall see.

“At the moment I cannot say if I am staying or not, because if a club puts a certain amount of millions of euros on the table, the president will probably tell me to leave”, added the highly-rated attacker.

While these quotes will no doubt have pleased Daniel Levy and co, it does not seem that they impressed Lacazette’s boyhood club.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas responded swiftly on Twitter, denying his star was for sale.

Aulas said: “It is simply impossible. [Lacazette] will be with us at the Stade des Lumieres [Lyon’s new stadium due to open later this year] and the Champions League.”

Should Spurs convince the Kids to part with their flying forward, it would certainly be a coup. Tottenham are currently odds-on at 8/13 for a top six finish, and have also been linked to a swap deal involving top stopper Hugo Lloris and PSG attacker Ezequiel Lavezzi.
