In what is arguably the biggest game of the Premier League season so far in terms of context, Liverpool host fierce rivals Manchester United, and a win for the Reds will take them one point above their visitors into fourth place.

Brendan Rodgers’ side are 21/10 for the victory and, since the start of the year, have been playing the better football of the two teams. United’s 3-0 win over Spurs last time out, however, went hand-in-hand with a much-needed scintillating performance.

Liverpool battled to a well-earned victory at the Liberty Stadium to beat Swansea 1-0 previously and, interestingly, the last time they lost in the Premier League was mid-December against, of all teams, Louis van Gaal’s side, as Rodgers’ Reds succumbed to a 3-0 defeat.

Last season, Liverpool beat the Red Devils 1-0 at Anfield, with Daniel Sturridge netting the only goal after four minutes. The striker is 5/1 to open the scoring, and last dispatched in the 2-0 win over Burnley. Jordan Henderson has been crucial for the club recently, alleviating any concerns fans may have had about Steven Gerrard leaving at the end of the campaign.

His winner in South Wales meant he scored in three successive Premier League games, including the 2-0 win over Manchester City. Henderson will relish the match against United, and is a sensational 6/1 to score anytime.

Having recovered from injury, Gerrard will be available for selection, and the club skipper is 11/4 to net anytime in what is likely to be his last ever match against United for the Reds.

The home side’s on-form attacking threats far outweigh their visitors’, who, until the match against Spurs, had struggled for goals this campaign. While Philppe Coutinho (7/2 anytime), Raheem Sterling (6/1 first scorer), and Adam Lallana (11/2 anytime) have all contributed to Liverpool’s goals this term, United’s offering has been in short supply.

Pivotal to any success at Anfield will be the performance of Wayne Rooney, who will need to keep his cool in what is bound to be a heated affair. He has also scored the winner in this fixture previously during the 2004/05 campaign, in front of the Kop no less, and is 6/1 to break the deadlock.

Marouane Fellaini was exceptional against Mauricio Pochettino’s outfit last time out, getting on the scoresheet and generally dictating play. The Belgian is 7/2 to net again anytime.

Juan Mata, meanwhile, was on target in the victory at Old Trafford earlier in the season, and the former Chelsea and Valencia star is 5/1 in the anytime market. Radamel Falcao is also in contention to feature, and has odds of 7/1 to open the scoring.
