Rangers boss Stuart McCall has called for more leaders throughout the team, as they prepare to take on Hibernian, in what was once an eagerly anticipated clash in the SPL.

The two clubs, however meet in Scottish football’s second tier, and new manager of the Glasgow outfit McCall, will be hoping for a vast improvement from the 4-0 defeat previously, with Rangers 10/3 with Coral for the win.

“We need more leaders – it shouldn’t just be the captain,” said McCall.

“We need all to be captains, we need to take responsibility. But when your confidence is fragile, it’s harder to look after your teammates.”

“The game will tell us a lot – looking back at the 4-0 defeat there was nothing but negatives,” added McCall. “It was a hugely disappointing day for everyone connected with the football club,” McCall continued

“I remember watching it on TV and feeling really disappointed not only in the result but in the manner of the result, and that’s not taking anything away from Hibs.

“You’ve always got to be confident – not so much confident in their weaknesses, but confident in our strengths. Hibs are playing really well, they’ve got a good group of players, but there’s more to come from our squad – there really is.

“I’ve had about eight one-to-one meetings with players since I’ve been in, and every one to a man have said they’ve underperformed, they’re desperate to do better, and they will do better.”

Rangers are without a win in five league matches, having recorded five consecutive draws, and head to Edinburgh hoping to close the gap on Hibs who are six points and one place ahead of Gers in second, though concede a game in hand.

Encouragingly, the visitors aren’t short of scorers with Nicky Clark who has struck six this season, having bagged a brace last time out. He is 7/2 to dispatch anytime, while Kris Boyd will be hoping to start finding the net again under the new boss, and is the same price in the same market.

The hosts, by stark contrast, have won their last five league matches, and the last time they lost in any competition was at the start of December in the league. Top scorer is attacker Jason Cummings, who has struck in his last three matches, and is 5/1 to break the deadlock. Also in contention is Dominique Malonga who is also 5/1 in the same market.
