Premier League Darts Week 8: Dutch giants duel in Dublin

| 26.03.2015

A number of stars involved in the Premier League will be under pressure in Week 8 in Dublin’s 3Arena, as there are just two more rounds of darting action before Judgement Night, where two players face elimination.

The highlight of the evening in Ireland will most certainly be the Dutch duel between defending champion Raymond van Barneveld and 2013 winner Michael van Gerwen.

Elsewhere, high-flying Dave Chisnall will be hoping to get back on track against Adrian Lewis, before talented duo Gary Anderson and Stephen Bunting battle. Past Premier League champions Phil Taylor and James Wade are also in action, against Kim Huybrechts and Peter Wright respectively.

Adrian Lewis v Dave Chisnall
Runner-up in 2011, Lewis (11/10 favourite) surely needs a win in this opening match of the evening, as he sits in the elimination zone, after going without a victory since Week 1 this competition.

Luckily for Jackpot, Chisnall (7/4 to triumph) has slipped in the last two weeks, losing to Bunting and Van Gerwen, after an incredible start to the season. Both Chizzy and Lewis have eight wins apiece from their 17 meetings, and a draw at 10/3 looks a tempting shout, as they shared the spoils last year too.

Gary Anderson v Stephen Bunting
This duo are also evenly-matched in their head-to-heads, but world champion Anderson (8/13 favourite for victory) edges Bunting (3/1) 3-2.

Both are in good form in the league coming into this clash, as The Bullet has overcome a nervous start in his first season, to win two of his last three – the other being a draw.

Tournament third-favourite Anderson (10/3), who is now up in second place, has also recovered well after his thrashing at the hands of Chisnall in Week 5, to go onto beat Lewis and Huybrechts. A draw could be the best punt here too at 4/1.

Peter Wright v James Wade
Snakebite has been the draw and comeback specialist of the 2015 Premier League so far, and he frustrated Bunting last week. A third share of the spoils of the night could be on the cards in this match, and you can take odds of 10/3 for that outcome.

But 2009 champion Wade (even-money favourite) has a dominant 8-2 record over Wright (15/8), and is equal on points with fourth-placed Taylor, so is a tempting 9/2 chance to win 7-5.

Michael van Gerwen v Raymond van Barneveld
In the highlight match of the night, we see two titanic Dutchman fight it out on the oche, and both have beaten the other 13 times, making a draw tasty at 4/1.

However, table-topper Mighty Mike (1/2 odds-on favourite) is the only one left in the league that is undefeated, and has won his last three encounters against his compatriot, so back him at 7/2 to be the 7-4 victor. Barney has struggled this season, but produced a thrilling display to beat Taylor last week, so is 4/1 to cause another shock.

Phil Taylor v Kim Huybrechts
Although Huybrechts sits bottom of the table on three points, he has put in some spirited displays in his debut Premier League campaign, and beat defending champion Van Barneveld.

Unfortunately for him, The Hurricane (9/2) next faces the greatest player the sport has ever seen in six-time champion Taylor (odds-on 4/9 favourite), who has won all seven clashes with the Belgian. Back The Power to triumph 7-3 at 11/2.

Here is the table after Week 7…
