Premier League Darts Week 2: Stoke and Scotland giants collide

Coral’s darts experts preview Premier League action coming up in Week 2, with mouth-watering clashes to look out for in Bournemouth, including last year’s World Championship winners Michael van Gerwen (PDC) against Stephen Bunting (BDO).

Stoke superstars Adrian Lewis and Phil Taylor also collide, while there is an interesting battle between Scottish duo Peter Wright and Gary Anderson as well.

Peter Wright v Gary Anderson
Anderson made sure there was no hangover from his incredible winter run, that included claiming his first World Championship, by getting off to the best of starts in the Premier League by beating Ally Pally final opponent Taylor in Week 1.

Wright, on the other hand, was thrashed by pre-tournament joint-outsider Chisnall 7-1, so back The Flying Scotsman for victory over compatriot Snakebite (6/5 to finish in the bottom two) odds-on at 1/2.

Title third-favourite Anderson (7/2) has won the last three matches against Wright (7/2 for victory) as well, including in this competition last year 7-4, and he is 13/2 to win by that scoreline again.

Michael van Gerwen v Stephen Bunting
The second crunch clash of the night is perhaps the more intriguing too, as both players were world champions of their respective darting organisations in 2014, and also knocked out at the same stage (semis) at Alexandria Palace this year.

Van Gerwen is odds-on for victory at 8/15, perhaps due to the fact he was the 2013 winner, but Bunting, who claimed a nervous draw against James Wade on his Premier League debut, is tempting at 7/2. A share of the spoils is 4/1.

Mighty Mike boasts a 4-2 record over The Bullet, but when he wins, he wins big, so take tempting odds of 5/1 for a 7-2 scoreline in the Dutchman’s favour. Meanwhile, Bunting’s two victories have been very narrow, and he is 10/1 for a 7-5 victory.

Adrian Lewis v Phil Taylor
This is arguably the biggest battle of the evening, as six-time champions Taylor (6/5 favourite for victory) faces old friend and Stoke rival Lewis (8/5).

Jackpot destroyed defending champion Raymond van Barneveld 7-1 in Week 1, getting an incredible 113.80 average. Taylor, meanwhile, started the season slowly last year too, so back Lewis to cause another shock by beating The Power by the same 7-3 scoreline in their opening Premier League clash in 2014 at 11/1.

Taylor is still odds-on at 1/3 to make the play-offs, and 10/3 to claim his seventh title and first since 2012.

James Wade v Kim Huybrechts
Winner in 2009 Wade, did well to get a draw against Bunting in his return to the Premier League, despite being 6-4 up at one stage. The Machine has a good chance of claiming more points when he goes up against competition debutant Huybrechts, and he is the even-money favourite.

Belgian Huybrechts (7/4), who has lost his last three encounters with Wade, was defeated 7-3 in Week 1 by Van Gerwen, and is 9/1 to be beaten by that scoreline once more.

Dave Chisnall v Raymond van Barneveld
Chisnall wasn’t given a chance by the bookies before the tournament, but his 7-1 thrashing of Wright in Week 1 and Barney’s loss by the same result to Lewis make him the 5/4 favourite for victory.

Van Barneveld has a decent record over Chizzy, though, and is 6/4 to win, and 1/3 for a draw.
