Liverpool look to land another Italy frontman in Ciro Immobile

| 28.03.2015

Liverpool, 5/2 Premier League top four chances with Coral, have entered the race to sign Borussia Dortmund and Italy striker Ciro Immobile for £13m, according to our official media partners talkSPORT.

The 25-year-old only made a switch to Jurgen Klopp’s Westfalenstadion outfit and the Bundesliga last summer, but has failed to nail down a regular spot in their XI. Rumours on the continent claim Immobile has put his German home up for sale after falling out of favour.

Dortmund had a nightmare first half of the season, missing several first-team players through long-term injury, but have since recovered. Immobile has been on the periphery of that resurgence, however, with Gabon forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Colombia counterpart Adrian Ramos preferred by Klopp.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers will not be discouraged by the failure of his other Italian forward signings, Fabio Borini and Mario Balotelli, to make an impact at Anfield.

Merseyside outfit Liverpool will not have a clear run at nine times capped Azzurri international Immobile, however, with fallen Serie A giants AC Milan also interested.

A reported fee of £13m is attracting the Rossoneri, who are in the process of remodelling their squad so that they can challenge again. Milan already have Immobile’s former Torino teammate Alessio Cerci at the San Siro, after swapping him for ex-Chelsea and Reds frontman Fernando Torres in the winter window.

Rodgers has seen his strikeforce struggle following the sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona last summer, and an injury-hit campaign for Daniel Sturridge. This has meant an extra burden falling on the shoulders of England youngster Raheem Sterling, while veteran Rickie Lambert, Borini and Balotelli have all flopped.

Punters and Liverpool scouts alike should get a closer look at what Immobile can do, as Italy host England in a prestige friendly in Turin on March 31st. Prior to that, though, Antonio Conte’s Azzurri have a Euro 2016 qualifier away in Bulgaria, and Immobile is 19/10 to net anytime.
