Guy Martin emerges as new favourite for Top Gear job

| 26.03.2015

Motorcycle racer Guy Martin is the new favourite to replace Jeremy Clarkson as Top Gear’s next presenter, following a flood of bets this morning with bookmaker Coral. The firm has slashed his odds into 2-1 from 20-1, while Chris Evans is next best at 5-2. Early favourite Jodie Kidd is still in the frame for the job at 3-1.

Other names in the mix include Johnny Vaughan, Steve Coogan and Stephen Fry, who have all been chalked up at 10-1. Outsiders to land the high-profile role include Suzi Perry at 20-1 and Piers Morgan at 33-1.

Meanwhile, Coral has opened betting on Jeremy Clarkson’s next station, making Netflix his most likely destination at 6-4, ahead of Sky at 5-2, Channel 5 at 5-1, ITV at 7-1 and Channel 4 at 10-1.

“This morning’s gamble on Guy Martin has really shaken up the betting in the race to become the next Top Gear presenter. Yesterday the money came for Jodie Kidd and Chris Evans, but today’s gamble has certainly spiced things up,” said Coral’s Nicola McGeady.

“Clarkson’s next job has also attracted lots of attention and although we initially thought Sky would be knocking on his door, the latest odds suggests that a move to Netflix is on the cards,” added McGeady.
