Will goal hero Harry Kane be crowned Premier League top scorer?

| 08.03.2015

Terrific Tottenham striker Harry Kane’s stock continues to rise, as the youngster propelled his club back into the top six and within touching distance of a coveted Champions League spot, after bagging a brilliant brace against QPR.

A superbly timed and powerful header from a set piece, plus a cool finish around QPR keeper Robert Green, perfectly summed up what the Spurs striker is all about; instinct, movement, determination, energy.

Those two fine finishes now place cunning Kane third in the Premier League top scorer chart, with a sensational 16 goals in 24 outings, just one behind current joint-top marksmen Sergio Aguero and Diego Costa.

Eight strikes in his last six league games have understandably added to the hyperbole surrounding confident Kane, but the praise is certainly well deserved.

Before his brace-bagging heroics, the 21-year-old was 7/1 with Coral to be crowned Premier League top scorer for the season, but customers should prepare for those odds to now shorten significantly.

To be counted among blockbuster names such as Aguero and Costa is a testament to the incredible progress that Spurs starlet Kane has made since last summer, with a senior England call-up also expected imminently.

Despite his obvious talents, the Young Lion has benefited from circumstance, as Spurs have failed to land a suitable striker in recent transfer windows.

The poacher’s rise to prominence thanks to Europa League group stage goals, plus a struggling Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor being frozen out again, eventually forced Mauricio Pochettino’s hand, and Kane has never looked back.

A truly impressive 26 goals across all competitions this campaign means he has emphatically announced himself at club level, but now Kane must turn his attention to his country.

In a recent interview, England boss Roy Hodgson said of him: “Kane is ready; if he wasn’t ready, he wouldn’t be playing for Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League and scoring lots of goals.

“Often if someone like Kane is going to come into the squad, then someone is going to drop out and up until now most of the players that we’ve had… have done quite well for us during the autumn, so you can’t include everybody unfortunately.”

Luckily for Kane, Hodgson was watching as the frontman dismantled QPR. After pressing his case for a cap so spectacularly, the hero of the hour is a fantastic 7/4 to score against Lithuania in England’s next international.

A well-rounded and versatile attacker, cool Kane would be a perfect fit alongside contemporaries such as Raheem Sterling and Ross Barkley.

With skipper and striker Wayne Rooney in inconsistent club form, Danny Welbeck enduring a goal drought for Arsenal and Daniel Sturridge struggling to find sharpness, the Three Lions could use a fresh face up front.

As such, promising poacher Kane is now in the ranks, and punters can enjoy some super special bets. Back the young striker in the short-term at 6/5 to score over 3.5 goals for England in 2015, or take a chance on the future and choose odds of 33/1 for ‘Hurri-Kane’ to become the Three Lions’ record scorer.
