Crunch time for Manchester City against basement battlers Burnley
Manchester City’s trip to Turf Moor arrives at a vital time for both the Sky Blues and hosts Burnley. Manuel Pellegrini’s men cannot afford to drop points in their pursuit of Premier League leaders Chelsea, while Sean Dyche’s side must start showing intent to survive the drop.
City, odds-on with Coral at 4/9 to win, may prepare for this north west clash against the Clarets with midweek in mind. The Manchester club will be facing Spanish giants Barcelona, and could rest some of their top stars in anticipation.
This would be a bold decision, however, as Burnley have their backs against the wall, and already snatched a draw at the Etihad earlier this season.
The Clarets, who have also held Chelsea at Turf Moor recently, are 7/2 to split the spoils with their glamorous visitors again.
Pellegrini’s prolific Citizens have notched up 12 goals in their last four league games and will be aiming to sharpen their scoring boots ahead of their Nou Camp visit. So, back the Sky Blues at a nifty 9/2 to net four or more.
Joint Premier League top scorer Sergio Aguero has been on target in four of his past five games across all competitions, and is available at 7/2 to bag a brace or better against Burnley’s wobbly backline.
The calamitous Clarets have conceded 47 times in this term, the second worst record in the league, so City must make the most of their chances.
Creator-in-chief David Silva opened the floodgates against Leicester City last time out and also grabbed the first goal against Burnley in the reverse, so back the silky Spain star at 5/1 to do so again.
Winter window signing Wilfried Bony, meanwhile, is yet to find the net for his new club, but is a fantastic 4/1 to break his Sky Blues duck and strike anytime.
As for the home team, Dyche’s side have had a tough run recently and are eight games without a win across all competitions. Odds of 6/1 for the Turf Moor team to triumph seem unlikely, but Burnley have shown they can surprise before.
Much sought-after marksman Danny Ings is a favourable 9/4 in the anytime market, while attacking partner Ashley Barnes proved a handful for City at the Etihad, and is a tempting 10/1 to trouble them on home turf by netting first.
Former Man City full back fledglings Ben Mee and Kirean Trippier, plus Manchester United academy graduate Michael Keane, will surely be motivated to stall the Citizens and are 8/1 to help the Clarets keep a clean sheet.
