Coral’s PL of matchweek 29: Man Utd and Aston Villa-heavy

| 16.03.2015

After another weekend of fantastic football action, Coral expert football writers carve up our best XI from the nine Premier League fixtures.

Goalkeeper: Fraser Forster (Southampton)
In the match at Stamford Bridge, it really was a battle of the keepers, and Southampton’s Forster edged Chelsea stopper Thibaut Courtois for our number one jersey this week, after two brilliant saves to help his side draw 1-1. The Saints are now 13/2 top four chances.

Right back: Leandro Bacuna (Aston Villa)
Tim Sherwood claimed Villa coaches had to almost teach the right-sided Dutch player how to play full back, and it worked with Bacuna putting in a great performance, getting two assists as the Villans thrashed Sunderland 4-0.

Centre back: Chris Smalling (Manchester United)
England’s Smalling every now and then puts in a superb display, and he was on top form against Spurs in the Red Devils’ 3-0 home victory.

Centre back: Jason Shackell (Burnley)
No one expected the Clarets to get a point, let alone three, in their home fixture against Premier League champions Manchester City. Captain Shackell was a rock at the back, stopping the likes of Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure and David Silva from finding the net. Burnley are now 6/5 to stay up.

Left back: Joel Ward (Crystal Palace)
Former Portsmouth player Ward has usually been a left back this season, but played on the right in the 3-1 win over QPR. He netted the crucial third goal in this game, to further enhance the Eagles’ top 10 chances (8/1).

Right wing: Charles N’Zogbia (Aston Villa)
The Frenchman has not featured often this season for the Villans, but was key to much of his side’s attacking moves at Sunderland, and he set up the third goal.

Centre midfield: Michael Carrick (Manchester United)
When Carrick has starred for United, they have lost just one match in all competitions this term, and the vice-captain is a key player for Louis van Gaal’s men when fit. He got a goal and an assist against his former side Spurs.

Centre midfield: Marouane Fellaini (Manchester United)
Fellaini was awarded the Man-of-the-Match award against Tottenham, and he continues to put his debut season for the Red Devils behind him. The Belgian is also becoming a star for United, and got the first goal at Old Trafford.

Left wing: George Boyd (Burnley)
Scotland attacker Boyd got the sole goal for strugglers Burnley against Man City, with a sweet hit. He also had a good chance earlier in the game and was a handful all day.

Striker: Gabriel Agbonlahor (Aston Villa)
Bagging a brace away from home in any match is worthy of being in any Team of the Week, and the former England forward scored his, using great strength and pace, in-between his strike partner who features next.

Striker: Christian Benteke (Aston Villa)
The big Belgian opened and finished the scoring for Villa at the Stadium of Light, the second being a terrific towering header from Bacuna’s cross.
