Swansea seek summer swoop for Anderlecht attacker Mitrovic

| 18.02.2015

Swansea City will aim to secure the signing of Anderlecht’s star striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, as Garry Monk looks to fill the void left by former frontman Wilfried Bony, who recently joined Premier League champions Manchester City.

The Swans, odds-on at 5/6 with Coral for a top 10 finish, have been left with a shortage of attacking options, but the capturing of marksman Mitrovic would boost their forward threat for next season, with the Serbian starlet in fine form this term.

Anderlecht’s astute attacker has sublimely netted 13 times during the current campaign, helping his title challenging side go within four points of rivals Club Brugge at the Belgium league’s summit.

The Pro-League poacher also shone in this season’s Champions League group stages, before being beaten to the knockout rounds by group leaders Borussia Dortmund and Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal.

However, Mitrovic will still have a European stage to shine on, with Anderlecht having finished third in Group D, securing a place in the Europa League ahead of Galatasaray.

The 20-year-old superbly struck in his team’s 1-1 group stage draw with Jurgen Klopp’s Dortmund and, also fired home an injury time equaliser in their 3-3 stalemate with the Gunners at the Emirates last November.

With eight strikes in his last 15 outings for the Purple and White, Mitrovic may provide Monk’s Welsh outfit with some much-needed firepower for next season’s Premier League, as the current crop of Swans strikers continue to struggle in front of goal.

Since Bony’s departure to the Etihad, of Swansea’s four recognised senior centre forwards, only Frenchman Bafetimbi Gomis has netted a domestic league goal, with Nelson Oliveira, Jefferson Antonio Montero and Marvin Emnes failing to score in the Premier League this calendar year.

Monk’s men currently sit in ninth place, nine points adrift of a European spot, which the Welsh side would have been hoping for at the beginning of the term. Menacing marksman Mitrovic could potentially help close that gap next season as a summer switch to the Liberty Stadium looks possible.

Former Swans striker Bony is 66/1 to finish the campaign as the top flight’s top scorer, having struck nine times already.
