Andre Ayew eyes exit from French high-flyers Marseille
French outfit Marseille may be flying high in Ligue 1 this season in second place, even ahead of giants PSG on goal difference, but issues behind the scenes are beginning to show, as are their results. They have won just three of their last eight.
Most recently, it has been revealed that the Mediterranean side are suffering financial difficulty, and are having trouble being able to tie down key players to longer deals, with the likes of Andre-Pierre Gignac and Andre Ayew out of contract in the summer.
The duo have, therefore, been heavily linked with moves to the Premier League at the end of the season, with the latter now attracting the likes of top four chances Liverpool (10/3), Tottenham (9/2), Arsenal and Manchester United (both 2/5).
“OM have financial problems and they cannot afford to pay certain wages,” Ayew recently said. “I am a Marseille player at this stage and could still stay here. My future is still open.
“There will soon be a meeting to discuss my future. But I will not accept a pay cut to stay at OM. Every player wants to make progress, in all aspects. If the club want me to leave, then I will go. But I like Marseille.”
Ayew, 25, who is the son of former Ghana legend Abedi Pele, has been one of Marseille’s star performers this term, despite being absent for five league games whilst at the Africa Cup of Nations recently, as he has scored four times and set up another three.
When the winger was away with the Black Stars, his club side won just twice, so it is clear how important he is to the title chances. But in that time, he carried on his terrific form, by netting three times for Ghana on their run to the final in Equatorial Guinea and he also got a penalty goal in his nation’s shootout loss to the Ivory Coast.
On top of all the issues at Marseille, boss Marcelo Bielsa continues to be linked away in the summer as well. Saudi Arabia are reportedly tracking his services, while he is also said to be a possible replacement for Sam Allardyce at West Ham United, if the Englishman departs Upton Park.
