Super Bowl XLIX pegged as a pick ‘em in NFL Betting at Coral

With the clock ticking down to kickoff at Super Bowl XLIX, Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots are deadlocked in what is shaping up to be a pick ‘em game in NFL online betting at Coral.

Defending champions Seattle, who claimed their first Super Bowl championship last year with a dominating 43-8 win over Denver Broncos, opened as two-point favourites following their thrilling 28-22 comeback win over the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Conference Championship two Sundays ago.

However, as Super Bowl betting opened up around the globe, a volatile betting line quickly moved in New England’s favour, briefly establishing the Patriots as favourites by as much as two points before moving back to a PICK.

The Seahawks, who were pegged as two-point underdogs ahead of last year’s Super Bowl win, will take the field at University of Phoenix Stadium on Sunday night riding an eight-game SU win streak, but have yet to reward punters during the post-season, going 0-1-1 ATS in their playoff wins over the Packers and Carolina Panthers.

Seattle has also surrendered 19.5 points per game in their two playoff contests, a massive jump for the defensively stingy Seahawks, who had given up an average of just 6.5 points per game in their previous six outings to finish the NFL regular season with the league’s top defense, holding opponents to just 15.9 points per game overall.

The Patriots also finished strong, with 10 SU wins in their last 12 regular season matchups, but are just 3-4 ATS in their last seven outings. What the points total will be in this weekend’s Super Bowl has also seen movement since opening at 48.5, dropping to 47, as the UNDER attracted the attention of sports bettors favouring the Seahawks.

In Seattle’s last two, this finished OVER but the UNDER was a solid 5-1 in their final six regular season matchups. Punters should note the Seahawks’ increasing defensive dominance, fixing the point total above 45 just once in their last 13, with the UNDER paying off in six of those contests, despite steadily decreasing totals.

The UNDER is also a solid 6-2 in New England’s last eight, however point totals have been pegged significantly higher in games involving the Patriots this season, dropping below 47 just once in New England’s last 11, while being set between 52 and 58.5 in six of their last 11.

Super Sunday marks the first meeting between Seattle and New England in over two years. The Seahawks are 6-2 SU in their last eight matchups with the Pats, dating back to 1989, including four outright victories as betting underdogs, and claimed a 24-23 win as four-point dogs in their last date with them in Week 6 of the 2012 NFL reason.

Washington state outfit Seattle have obviously been strong playoff performers in recent years, winning five straight SU dating back to the start of last season’s competition, but are a mediocre 2-2-1 ATS during that stretch. Overall, the Seahawks 9-4 SU in 13 games since their 21-10 loss to Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XL, going 7-5-1 ATS.

Conversely, the Patriots have been a betting disappointment in recent campaigns, losing outright in their last two Super Sunday appearances, in Super Bowls XLII and XLVI, going 6-6 SU in their last 12 post-season matchups, and a miserable 4-11 ATS in their last 15 playoff games.
