Spurs offered Mattia Destro in exchange for Vlad Chiriches

| 27.01.2015

Tottenham, 6/1 with Coral for a top four finish, have been handed a boost in their search for further forward options, after Roma offered Mauricio Pochettino’s men the chance to sign striker Mattia Destro.

The Serie A side are reportedly keen to include Spurs’ out-of-favour centre back Vlad Chiriches in any deal with the north London outfit, as they aim to challenge for Italy’s top-flight title this season.

White Hart Lane’s Argentine head coach has been heavily reliant on his young forward Harry Kane, but Destro could provide Spurs with another attacking outlet for the remainder of this season’s Premier League campaign.

Destro, 23, has struck five times in 16 outings for Rudi Garcia’s men this season, with his current contract not set to expire until 2017. However, the Italian hitman has been limited to only eight Serie A starts at his current employers, raising reports of a possible move to London.

Pochettino also has Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado available as his senior strikers in the squad, but the scoring burden has fell mainly upon in-form Kane’s shoulders.

Former Spain international Soldado has struggled hugely since arriving from Valencia in 2013, with former Togo skipper Adebayor only recently being brought back into the Spurs side.

The African attacker, formerly of Arsenal and Manchester City, featured in Tottenham’s narrow 1-0 Capital One Cup first leg victory over Sheffield United after last playing for Pochettino’s team in their defeat to Stoke City last November.

Deadly Destro, a former Inter Milan youth player, has become one of the hottest properties in Italy after being snapped up from Siena in 2012 and, at international level he has bagged one goal in eight caps for the Azzurri.

This sought-after striker was in the Nerazzurri’s youth set-up when Jose Mourinho steered Inter to a historic Champions League, Coppa Italia and Serie A treble in 2010.

With Kane having become White Hart Lane’s primary poacher, former Southampton boss Pochettino will hope to bolster his attack with the capture of Roma’s Destro, as his side look to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Tottenham are 16/1 to lift the Europa League this year after being drawn against Fiorentina in the last 32 stage, and could have Destro on their books before then, with the Italian having previously netted against Serie A’s Viola in a league clash.
