Blackburn Rovers, 10/1 Championship promotion chances with Coral, are bracing themselves for a bid from Real Sociedad boss David Moyes for compatriot and Scotland striker Jordan Rhodes.

The 24-year-old, capped 11 times at senior international level, has emerged as a target for the Basque Country club with former Manchester United and Everton manager Moyes looking to lure talented British players to San Sebastian.

Sociedad are seeking a striking option to add to ex-Arsenal attacker Carlos Vela and summer signing Alfred Finnbogason, who is an Iceland international.

Prolific frontman Rhodes has forged a promising partnership with Benin’s Rudy Gestede at Ewood Park, and the latter has out-scored him this term so far under Gary Bowyer.

As Rovers have had a transfer embargo slapped on them by the Football League for breaching Financial Fair Play regulations, they may have to sell players to balance the books before this is lifted.

Coral experts recently assessed potential Sociedad signings for Moyes in the winter window, but this apparent interest in Rhodes has since materialised.

Moyes was spotted at Ewood Park over the festive period to watch Blackburn’s battle with promotion rivals Middlesbrough, which finished goalless.

Other names Sociedad are rumoured to be interested in include Premier League trio Charlie Adam, Joel Campbell and Adnan Januzaj. Scotland midfielder Adam is out of favour in midfield at Stoke City under Mark Hughes.

United’s Belgium international winger, Adnan Januzaj, meanwhile, finds his path to first-team football blocked at Old Trafford while Louis van Gaal persists with playing three at the back. Arsenal and Costa Rica attacker Joel Campbell is another who has fallen down the pecking order, as Gunners summer signings Alexis Sanchez and Danny Welbeck join Olivier Giroud up front when fit.

If a Spanish move materialises for Rhodes, it may be initially on loan, following comments made by Moyes. Playing in La Liga may also enhance his prospects at international level, with Scotland boss Gordon Strachan preferring Premier League pair Steven Fletcher and Steven Naismith.
