Lingfield Preview: Related ready to roll

| 23.01.2015

Related scored in good style last time out and looks decent value to follow up in the 7f handicap at Lingfield today (3.10).

The David Simcock trained five-year-old has won two of his last three starts, and looked one to keep on the right side when beating Steel River by 1/2 a length in an 11-runner contest at Kempton last month.

The gelding raced prominently throughout and after taking up the running at the furlong marker found plenty when challenged close home to score with a bit more in hand than the winning margin would suggest.

That was just Related’s second try on the polytrack surface, and a 2lb rise in the weights looks lenient given his unexposed profile on it.

His handler is also in good form having saddled three winners from his last two runners, and another positive is that Related has the services of David Sweeney in the saddle who has a near 26% strike rate in the last 12 months when teaming up with the yard.

In the 7f handicap (2.00), Jersey Bull can go well at a price following an eye-catching run last time out.

The gelding had some decent form last year when trained by Mick Channon, finishing third on two occasions at Bath before opening his account with a 1/2 length success in class 5 maiden at Ripon.
Jersey Bull was allotted an opening handicap mark of 75, and has subsequntly failed to trouble the judge in five runs.

However the three-year-old’s mark has fallen as a result and he now gets into this class 6 contest off a career-low of 57.

That gives the son of Clodvil a big shout at the weights, and he comes into the contest having ran his best since joining Michael Madgwick’s yard to finish a never nearer three length sixth of 13 to Wolf Of Windlesham at Kempton when given too much to do and finishing with running left in him.

Kodafine is another that has been given a big chance by the assessor and can take advantage to land the spoils in the 5f handicap (2.35).

The David Evan’s filly is a three-time winner on the all-weather surface, with the last of those successes coming in a claimer at this track last June off an official rating of 65.

The four-year-old went on to be placed on several occasions, including at this venue in a handicap off 63, and is now able to race off a career-low of just 56 having signalled that her time was near when posting a really solid effort to finish a 2 1/4 length fourth of 13 to Invigilator at Chelmsford City 12 days ago.

2.00: Jersey Bull (NB)
2.35: Kodafine
