Fresh from rides at Meydan, Southwell and Wolverhampton this week, our All-Weather Champion columnist, Adam Kirby shares his thoughts on his upcoming rides. Adam is in action at Lingfield and below he talks us through his 6 rides.

12:20 Lingfield
I ride Magical Effect for Mr Appleby in the opener. I was second on him at Wolverhampton on his debut. It was good run first time out. He’s likely to improve for that experience. You never know with maidens but looking at the race, I think he’ll be difficult to beat. He’s probably my best ride of the day.

I’m on Black Vale in this one for Ralph Smith. I haven’t ridden the horse before but he’s won over CD which is a help. It looks a competitive race; they look much of a muchness. But looking at it he’s going to have to up his game if he’s going to be winning tomorrow. He’s drawn eight of eight so that’s not in his favour either. Obviously I’m hoping he runs his race but he will have to improve to be involved at the finish.

I ride Gold Trail for Mr Appleby. Again I haven’t ridden him before. He was beaten favourite on his last run at Wolverhampton on Boxing Day but he’s probably the top end of his handicap. But on the plus side Mr Appleby’s horses are in great form. It looks an okay race, some good horses in it so he’ll have to raise his game to win this.

I ride an interesting horse in this race. I’m on Dastarhon for Pia Brandt. I don’t know too much about this horse as he’s been campaigned in France. He was out in Dubai last spring and was rated 113 out there and comes into this race off a mark of 95. I’m not sure what the plan is for this horse, I’m guessing that Pia Brandt is looking to get him qualified for the Finals day in April. I don’t know too much about her but looking forward to riding the horse. It does look a good contest but let’s hope he runs his race. It’s interesting that his trainer is bringing him all the way so she must think he has a good chance.

I’m on Thanksgiving Day here. I rode him the last day at Wolverhampton. I made the running on him on that occasion, we went a nice gallop. He was going great guns until we straightened up and then he sort of half cut out on me just didn’t really stay at it. He’s a nice horse, has plenty of ability and will win races but I think he’ll need to improve to win on Saturday.

In the last race of the day I’m on The Gay Cavalier for John Ryan. I rode the horse two starts back in early December. He was second again a week ago. But I think he’s at the top of his handicap and looking at it I think I’ve got two to beat, Rakaan ran well last time, hit the front too soon so if he plays it late on Saturday, he could beat me. Also down the bottom you’ve got Bobby Benton, he ran well last time. They are three interesting one’s for me. Obviously I hope my horse comes out on top but he’ll earn it.
