Kirby Calls It: All Weather champion previews his next ten rides at Lingfield

| 17.01.2015

I’m at Lingfield today and tomorrow. I’ve ten rides and hopefully I can bag a few winners. I missed yesterday as was feeling a little poorly. So I took the day off to ready myself for the weekend. I’ve had a good week but unfortunately not good enough.

Things are going really well but unfortunately for me, Luke (Morris) is doing really well too. I had closed the gap on him, I think it was down to six or seven the other day but he’s riding winners hand over fist and good luck to him but obviously it’s no good to me. The season is still young and there are plenty of horses yet to come, I just need my luck so change a little bit. I’m only 11 winners behind him and I’m confident I can get him but things need to start happening and hopefully that will begin at Lingfield over the next few days.

Below are my thoughts on today’s races

1:20 Lingfield
I ride Kuwait Star for Sarah Humphrey in this one. I haven’t him before but he’s he has okay form. He had his first run on the All-Weather for two years before Christmas and ran a nice race at Kempton. He runs off a mark of 63 and although it looks a competitive enough race, if he improves from that run at Kempton, I could see him being in the shake-up.

1:50 Lingfield
I’m on Final Drive for John Butler here. This horse has been off the track for almost two years. His form before that wasn’t great. He had decent form about 4 or 5 years ago, I think he even ran out in Meydan off a mark of 101. But that was a long time ago and he runs in this off 57! Obviously he needs to bounce back and show some sparkle. It’s a first run in quite a while so he will need to be fully fit and recapture some enthusiasm for the game.

2:25 Lingfield
I ride a sweet little filly in this race. Two In The Pink tries her heart out. She’s probably at the top end of the handicap so will need everything to go right for her. She’s very consistent but probably needs to raise her game a little. I’ve ridden her twice and been second on her on both occasions so hopefully she can go a one better today.

2:55 Lingfield
I ride a really nice horse here in Anglophile and I expect him to win. I’ll be very disappointed if he gets beat. I’m doing an extra light on him. To be honest I’d be devastated if he got beat. He won a couple of nice races in December and is improving all the time. I was second on him before those runs at Kempton, when headed in the last 50yds. Mr Appleby’s horses remain in good nick and he’s definitely my best ride of the day.

3:30 Lingfield
When the decs came out I was a little confused to be down to ride Pearl Blue, as I was looking to ride the top horse Amadeus Wolfe Tone. I thought my agent had made a small mistake but I think that Jamie’s other runner doesn’t run now. I don’t really know this Pearl Blue. I haven’t ridden her before looking at her form; she’s a five time winner and is well treated at the weights with a top rating of 90. So hopefully she can recapture her winning form and run a big race.

4:00 Lingfield
In the last race of the day I’m on Mighty Mambo for Lawney Hill. The horse has been campaigning in both codes. He ran against The New One last time out which was a big ask but has some place efforts in this kind of grade which he runs in today, but he probably needs to raise his game to winning this.

Thoughts on Saturday’s runners to follow shortly
