Kirby Calls It: All Weather champion previews upcoming rides

SPORTSBOOK ODDS

It’s been a tough week. The gap at top of the Jockey’s Championship has increased and I’m going to have to get very lucky and get on some better horses if I’m to reduce the lead. Luke (Morris) is riding really well. He must be having petrol for breakfast but fair play to him; he’s firing in the winners. The season’s still young so I’m just going to have to keep on trying hard to bridge the gap.

I only have three spins at Lingfield on Saturday. I ride Gabrial’s Wawa in the 1:25. I was beaten by a short head on him at Lingfield on his last start. He ran well, came there with every chance.

He just got beaten by a better one on the day. He can be a little bit in and out. He’s a horse that can run one great race and then a bad one. But hopefully if the race goes to plan, he could run an okay race. They haven’t run him for over three weeks so hopefully he’s fresh and well and let’s hope he’s in the shake-up.

I ride Gworn for Ed Dunlop in the 2:35. I haven’t ridden the horse before but he has been very disappointing. He’s only beaten two horses home in his last three runs so will need to really step up if he’s to play a part in this. He has blinkers on for the first time so hopefully that will bring about the best in him.

They’ll need to improve him. I don’t have a ride in the feature race of the day (Coral.co.uk Handicap) at 3:10 as I can’t do the weight on Razor Wind but he definitely has a chance. He’s up 8Ibs for winning in early December so will have to improve again. It looks a competitive race and Gaelic Silver is probably his biggest danger. I beat him aboard Tryster at Chelmsford.

Gaelic Silver is not a bad horse but has just bumped into one too good for him on the last day. So I reckon it’s between those two. My last ride of the day is in the final race of the day.

I’m on True Course for Mr Appleby. Unfortunately he has a bad draw. To be honest, it doesn’t look the strongest race in the world. Mr Beckett’s (Green Tornado) might be an improver to watch.

And the bottom horse Laura B has been running well and is back after a little break. She was beaten favourite last time out but has good form. But if we can overcome the draw, I’m confident we can get something. My horse has won his last two and I think there’s another win in him. I suppose of the three True Course would be my best chance and I certainly need them at the moment.
