Aston Villa’s odds for relegation tumble again after Liverpool loss

Published:

Aston Villa are now 12/5 chances with Coral to go down (from 11/4, and previously 11/2), as their wait for a Premier League win goes on. Edging Blackpool in the FA Cup apart, it’s now seven outings for Paul Lambert’s lads without victory, and he is under increasing pressure.

Liverpool strikers Fabio Borini and Rickie Lambert finally turned up, and got a goal apiece at Villa Park to keep Brendan Rodgers’ Reds in the hunt for a top four finish. The Anfield outfit remain 5/1 chances to end up in a Champions League place.

Hull City, meanwhile, are in the bottom three, and 5/4 for the drop now (from 2/1) following three defeats in their last four Premier League outings. All of those losses have come without the Tigers being on target, and that lack of teeth is a major problem for Steve Bruce.

Front two Abel Hernandez and Nikica Jelavic missed the 3-0 loss at West Ham United and, if cover is not drafted in soon, they will sink deeper into relegation mire. That victory for Sam Allardyce’s Hammers sees them become 6/1 shots for a top six finish.

In other market movers, Southampton are now into 11/8 (from 5/2) to bring Champions League football to St Mary’s. Saint boss Ronald Koeman seems to have done it again with latest signing Eljero Elia, who bagged a decisive brace up at managerless Newcastle United.

At the top in the title race betting, Chelsea’s five-star show at Swansea City, coupled with champions Manchester City losing at home to Arsenal, has resulted in the former shortening in the outright win market.

Jose Mourinho’s men are 2/9 (from 4/7) and enjoy a five-point advantage over the Etihad outfit. City, meanwhile, are out to 9/2 (from 7/4) consequently.

And finally, a brace from Brazilian-born Chelsea frontman Diego Costa has taken him three clear of Sergio Aguero in the scoring charts. That means Spain international Costa is a strong odds-on 1/2 favourite (from 4/5) to finish the campaign as the Premier League’s leading marksman.
