Forgotten man Scott Sinclair linked with move to former loan clubs
Premier League relegation chances Crystal Palace (3/2) and QPR (7/4) are reportedly looking to snap up Manchester City flop forward Scott Sinclair in the January window, in the hope of the former Swansea City player helping their survival.
Tabloid rumours suggest that the 25-year-old, who once spent temporary spells at both the Eagles and Hoops whilst on Chelsea’s books, could be set for either a loan or permanent switch to the London clubs again.
It seems only the toughest of English players mentally make it at 11/4 title chances City, and Sinclair will have to jump ship if he is to have any chance of resurrecting his previously promising career.
The likes of other England players that were left to rot at the Etihad in recent years include Micah Richards, Joleon Lescott, Adam Johnson and Jock Rodwell – the latter duo are now getting their confidence back at Sunderland.
Only Three Lions number one Joe Hart and tenacious Yorkshireman James Milner have seemingly won past and present City management over, despite receiving their fair share of criticism themselves.
But Sinclair, who has 18 months left on his contract, will surely have to give up on his £52k-a-week deal at City for any move to materialise.
QPR were the front runners, but it seems Palace, who recently sacked manager Neil Warnock, are in more desperate need for a signing of the winger’s ilk.
The Eagles are set to lose DR Congo star Yannick Bolasie to the Africa Cup of Nations in January as well, so chairman Steve Parish will be looking to strike a deal, as he did with Wilfried Zaha after former boss Tony Pulis left as well.
Sinclair started his senior career with Bristol Rovers, before his talent was spotted early on and the player was snapped up by Chelsea.
However, six loan spells later, he finally found a place to settle, at Swansea, where his hat-trick in the Championship play-off final against Reading helped them become the first Welsh club to be promoted to the Premier League.
After another successful campaign in the top flight, Sinclair was sold to then champions Man City, but it all went downhill from there, as he’s managed just 19 appearances in all competitions in the three seasons since. He has played three minutes in two league games this term.
