Get stuck into the Toffees on Super Sunday at 11/5
The first Super Sunday game sees Southampton play host to Manchester City (1.30pm KO, Live on Sky Sports 1) and, in a tough game to call, the Saints look worth siding with at 2/1 with Coral to come out on top and enhance their terrific home record.
Ronald Koeman’s side have won six and lost none of their last eight Premier League home games, conceding just two goals in the process.
Southampton have won six and drawn once in their last seven games across all competitions, and currently sit in second place in the table behind Chelsea – two points and one place ahead of today’s rivals.
There has been absolutely no fluke to their terrific start to the season, and the south coast club have become a well-organised side, who are very tough to beat, and know what it takes to grind out results.
By stark contrast, City have not looked at their best so far this term, and have failed to impress in their last two Premier League games.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side were lucky to get a 2-2 away at QPR, and then struggled to beat Swansea 2-1 at home.
They do come into the game on the back of a confidence boosting 3-2 midweek win over Bayern Munich in the Champions League, but that will have taken plenty out of them, so I fancy a fresher Southampton to use home advantage to maximum effect and bag all three points.
Both teams to score looks a solid bet at 4/7, given that neither have had any problem finding the next this season, and in the correct score market I like a 2-1 win for Saints at a tasty looking 10/1 with Coral.
Everton are on a good run at present and look decent value at 11/5 with Coral to further enhance it with victory over Spurs at White Hart Lane in the other big game of the day (4pm KO, Live on Sky Sports 1).
The Toffees’ sole defeat in their last 11 games across all competitions came at Old Trafford, and Roberto Martinez’s side are beginning to really find their stride.
Everton look to be gathering momentum as the season progresses. It’s true that they don’t have a good record in this fixture, having won none of the last five encounters (L3, D2), but this could be the time for that to change.
Spurs are not playing at their best and, although they come into the game on the back of a Europa league win over Partizan Belgrade on Thursday night, they have an awful record after competing in that competition.
They have been beaten in four of their six post-Europa League matches so far, and all of those losses have come at White Hart Lane.
That suggests that in-form Everton are the value play, and I fancy Samuel Eto’o to fire them to success, who looked sharp as ever when netting twice at Burnley last month.
I would expect Eto’o to be in the starting XI for this, and the 6/1 with Coral about him netting the opener looks well worth a wager.
Best bets:
Southampton v Manchester City
Southampton to win – 2/1
Both teams to score – 4/7
Southampton to win 2-1 – 10/1
Spurs v Everton
Everton to win – 11/5
Samuel Eto’o to score first – 6/1
