Recent results make case for away win as Terriers tackle Owls
The away side has triumphed in four of the last five meetings between Huddersfield Town and Sheffield Wednesday, and that trend is set to continue at a tasty 23/10 on offer with Coral thanks to the Owls’ loan swoop for Lewis McGugan.
A proven midfield scorer who also takes free kicks, like former Nottingham Forest man McGugan, now at Wednesday temporarily from Watford, is worth his weight in gold in the Championship. Although the Terriers are 6/5 favourites to beat the Owls, they cashed in on both Adam Clayton and Oliver Norwood this summer, leaving the engine room rather undermanned.
Couched in those terms, McGugan can run riot, and his duel with fellow debutant Diego Poyet will be the main highlight of this tasty televised Yorkshire derby. Backed up by Jose Semedo holding, that pairing will have a bit of everything and certainly more than Town’s remnants in the middle can boast.
McGugan is available in a fabulous 13/2 wincast, or 7/2 to net anytime on his bow. Stuart Gray’s Steel City side have failed to score in five of their last six matches, but this real coup for him adds a new dimension to the Owls.
Speaking of dimensions, the Wednesday backline will need to guard against Chris Powell’s Terriers changing formation to match their 4-4-2. Grant Holt and Nahki Wells are a classic big man, little man partnership, while there is also talented winger Harry Bunn to consider.
The bulk of Town’s 25 league goals have come from this forward trio (14 between them), so they must be considered. Leading marksman Wells is 5/4 to score anytime, while big target Holt is 6/4 and Bunn is the best value at 7/4.
Powell’s frontline are clashing with an Owls defence that has kept three clean sheets in their last five outings, so tempting odds of 5/1 say the visitors will win to nil here. Huddersfield must beware Wednesday’s left side, Jeremy Helan and Jacques Maghoma, as both men scored in the away victory back in February.
It’s fair to say there’s more to come from both this term, with twice-capped DR Congo winger Maghoma a fantastic 4/1 to net anytime again. Although the Owls are the division’s draw specialists with nine, be positive and take that 23/10 price on victory, not on them settling for a point.
