Five Manchester City superstars who could exit the Etihad

Manchester City (6/1 with Coral to win the Premier League) have never progressed beyond the last 16 of the Champions League, and are facing elimination from Europe’s premier cup competition once again.

Defeat at home to Bayern Munich could see the Group E bottom-dwellers kicked to the curb of continental football, and Sky Blues attacker Samir Nasri has had his say on the matter.

Speaking before the key clash, the Frenchman stated: “We need to do something or otherwise next year it’s going to be new players and new everything.”

So, in light of Nasri’s warning, Coral writers put their heads together to come up with five City superstars who could depart.

Edin Dzeko
If City (odds-on at 1/7 to be eliminated at the group stage) sell to bring in new stars they feel are capable of helping them compete, underrated frontman Dzeko could be sacrificed in the interests of FIFA Fair Play.

The strong, Sarajevo-born striker gives the Sky Blues an extra dimension and has been patient whilst often playing second fiddle. However, further attacking additions should see him pack his bags and take his predatory instincts elsewhere.

Joe Hart
Sky Blues boss Manuel Pellegrini has never appeared to have complete faith in England’s number one, but Hart may find himself ushered to the exit regardless of whether the City coach stays in his post. An outstanding shot stopper, the custodian is still prone to the odd error or flash of temper in crucial games, so the Etihad outfit could look to upgrade.

Vincent Kompany
Arguably the most integral player at the Etihad, influential Kompany’s loss could be even more detrimental than a Sergio Aguero departure. City rivals Manchester United can certainly attest to how difficult it is to replace a top class centre half.

One of the best in his position, Sky Blues skipper Kompany is approaching his peak at 28 and may be tempted by a move to one of the European giants to chase continental success.

James Milner
Just like Dzeko, Milner has been biding his time in the blue half of Manchester. Often overlooked, the tenacious and adaptable Englishman has finally been receiving plaudits for his work this term.

After deciding to stay and push for his place over summer, Milner may see a changing of the guard as the time to finally move on and be first choice elsewhere.

Yaya Toure
A goal hero for City last time out, there is still no doubt that powerful Toure has been off-pace this season. Widely rumoured to be on the brink of leaving last transfer window, the Sky Blues could finally cash in on the supposedly want-away 31-year-old whilst his stock is still high.

Any potential funds from a Toure sale could bring in a fresh face like Ross Barkley or Paul Pogba, but it would still be risky for the Citizens (who are 9/2 to qualify from Group E) to part with one of their most experienced players.
