Injury-riddled Arsenal to reignite interest in Yohan Cabaye

Arsenal, 4/1 with Coral to win a major trophy this season, are apparently ready to return for former target Yohan Cabaye, as injuries pile up to put pressure on Arsene Wenger.

As Coral experts predicted, the Gunners are preparing to fork out for a new midfielder in the January sales, with former Newcastle United man Cabaye high on Wenger’s hitlist.

The French coach could swoop for his compatriot following the deep-lying PSG playmaker’s struggles to secure a starting spot at the Parc des Princes.

Conductor Cabaye initially thrived upon his return to his home country, after his switch from Tyneside to Paris last January.

The £19m ex-Magpies man was reportedly also on Wenger’s radar at the time and was the subject of summer bid in 2013, but opted to make the move back across the channel instead last winter.

Cabaye is now rumoured to be hoping to exit the French capital club and bid au revoir to the City of Lights, after a difficult start to this season.

Under former Les Bleus national boss Laurent Blanc, midfield schemer Cabaye has failed to nail down a regular place, and has recently been mainly restricted to substitute appearances.

The 28-year-old could even be available at a cut price fee considering the abundance of enviable midfield options, including Marco Verratti, Thiago Motta and Blaise Matuidi, in Parisian ranks.

Out-of-favour Cabaye could even find himself behind academy product and prodigy Adrien Rabiot, who was also reported to have piqued the Gunners’ interest before signing a new deal, in the pecking order.

With his international place under threat, 38-capped Cabaye is believed to favour a transfer to north London, amid apparent interest from rivals Manchester United and Liverpool.

Cabaye would certainly fit Wenger’s bill, having already proven his Premier League credentials during his two-and-a-half-season stint in Newcastle.

The skillful PSG pass-master can contribute in both attack and defence, combining an intriguing mix of guile and graft, which makes him an ideal replacement for sidelined skipper Mikel Arteta and midfield maestro Jack Wilshere.

If Arsenal are to keep up in the increasingly competitive race for a Champions League place in the midst of a severe injury crisis, this revival of the club’s supposed interest in Cabaye could be crucial.

The Gunners (33/1 to win the Champions League) are in need of a quick fix and someone who can adapt swiftly to life at the Emirates, making Cabaye an ideal candidate to pull Arsenal’s strings.
