Hull City plotting a return raid to Tottenham for Aaron Lennon

Hull City, 3/1 with Coral to be relegated, are attempting to kick-start their season in the January transfer window by luring Tottenham outcast Aaron Lennon to the KC Stadium.

Steve Bruce’s side have been struggling this term, and dangle just one point above the drop zone. Having scored just 14 times in 12 Premier League outings, the Tigers are in search of extra attacking teeth to help propel them up the table.

It appears that out-of-favour Spurs winger Lennon is top of Hull’s hitlist to fill the creative void, with Tigers boss Bruce set to raid White Hart Lane for the fourth time during his tenure.

Tottenham old boys Tom Huddlestone, Jake Livermore and Michael Dawson are already plying their trade on Humberside after being plucked away from north London by Bruce.

With hard-working Hull often set up to huff and puff, Lennon’s pace, guile and craft could certainly benefit the likes of Nikica Jelavic and Abel Hernandez, who are often starved of service.

The Tigers are reportedly facing competition from QPR and Stoke City, but it is believed Bruce would have the advantage after helping Huddlestone and co thrive with regular first-team football.

Spurs are rumoured to be ready to sell their current longest-serving player, with Mauricio Pochettino having restricted the rampant right winger to just six league appearances this season.

Tottenham lured Lennon from Leeds United back in 2005, aged just 18, when he was considered to be one of England’s brightest prospects.

The tricky attacker, now 27, has seen both his club and international career stall recently, and finds himself low in Pochettino’s pecking order, with the Argentine tactician believed to favour retaining Andros Townsend instead.

Lennon’s experience could serve Hull well, however, and provide a perfect platform for the 21-capped star to reignite his career.

Bruce will have been able to take a closer look at the current form of his supposed top target when the Tigers lost to Tottenham last time out. Lennon was a substitute in Spurs’ hard-fought victory, and Hull will be hoping their coach can bring the best out of the Yorkshire-born wideman.

If a switch to the KC Stadium can coax Lennon into returning to form, then the mooted £7m fee could be another fine bargain for Bruce (who is odds-on at 1/5 to help Hull stay up).
