Gareth Bale and co will fall just short for Wales in Belgium

When Wales last faced Belgium away, they managed to nick a 1-1 draw in a World Cup qualifier just over a year ago.

A share of the spoils again at 9/2 would represent a fantastic result for Chris Coleman’s men, who currently top Group B of Euro 2016 qualifying. That scoreline once more, meanwhile, is a tempting 11/1 price.

Belgium (third on four points after two matches), though, won their previous three games against the Dragons prior to that fixture, so are the odds-on 2/7 favourites with Coral for victory again. This is despite being without captain Vincent Kompany, he is sidelined due to a calf injury.

The Red Devils have called up a strong-looking squad for this encounter at the King Baudouin Stadium, with 11 of them currently turning out for English Premier League teams this season – just one less than Wales’ list.

Chelsea’s Eden Hazard, his former clubmate Romelu Lukaku (now at Everton) and Spurs winger Nacer Chadli have all been in fine form this term, and they can be backed at 5/4, 10/11 and 11/4 respectively to score anytime here.

Another former Blues player Kevin de Bruyne and Dries Mertens were both on target twice in Belgium’s first qualifier against Andorra, and are 7/4 and 5/4 shouts in the anytime market. Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen is another to look out for in terms of goals, as he has netted against Wales before. He is 7/1 to score again.

For Wales, of course Real Madrid star Gareth Bale is the main man. The 25-year-old has recovered from injury suffered earlier on in the season, and is a very tempting 2/1 chance to net anytime.

Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey is another to look out for, as the exiting attacker scored last time out against Belgium. He is 11/2 to get a goal anytime.

Wales boss Coleman spoke ahead of the game: “We know Belgium are the favourites but we put pressure on ourselves to get something there if we’re going to do anything in the group. But I think it’s a great pressure to have and the type of pressure you want.

“After four or five games in previous campaigns we’ve been out of the running. Then we come strong at the end of the campaign and everybody says we need to do this at the start of the next one.

“We have this time. We’ve come out of the blocks, we’ve got a fighting spirit. We’ve got quality. We’re top of the group and we’re going to the team expected to win it.”

Belgium are still odds-on favourites top win Group B at 1/5, while Wales are 16/1 chances. The British nation are also a tempting 13/8 price to qualify for the France finals.
