Arsenal head chase to sign Croatia starlet Brozovic in January
Croatia and Dinamo Zagreb international midfielder Marcelo Brozovic is being linked by the tabloid press with a move to Premier League giants Arsenal (4/1 with Coral to win a major trophy this term), possibly a soon as January.
The Gunners look as though they’ll go without yet another top-flight title this season, after managing just 17 points (12 behind leaders Chelsea) from 11 matches so far. However, Arsene Wenger is still keen to bolster his midfield ranks ahead of the new campaign.
Brozovic is a central player by trade, and can be utilised in defensive or attacking areas of the pitch, so his versatility would be useful, particularly with Arsenal (33/1 chances to win the Premier League) stars enduring lack of form and fitness of late.
The likes of Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere and Abou Diaby have all suffered injuries, while Mesut Ozil continues to unimpress and Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini aren’t getting any younger.
Meanwhile, Brozovic has just turned 22, and has many years ahead of him. The seven-times capped Croatian has managed to stay fit through the majority of his whole career to date, missing only the odd match through injury.
The Zagreb-born starlet also started in the recent Euro 2016 qualifier 1-1 draw away to Italy, alongside Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic in the heart of the midfield, and featured in the most recent World Cup.
It has been said that a bid of as little as £5m could be enough to tempt Brozovic, who is tied to his side until 2019, away from the Croatian capital club, which would represent great value for money.
In these days where players’ prices are over-inflated, such a low price means he is not much of a risk should he fail to adapt to life in England, which is a very rare occurrence for players from the Adriatic nation in recent years.
Other European clubs such as AC Milan and German outfits have also been interested in Brozovic in the past. If a move for Arsenal doesn’t work out, they may go back in for Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho, who would be by far a more expensive option.
