Swans to soar to home victory against Pearson’s misfiring Foxes

| 25.10.2014

Swansea City are aiming to end a run of five Premier League games without a win, as they host Leicester City (10/3 to taste victory) at the Liberty Stadium. The Swans will be feeling especially bullish, having lost just one home game in all competitions this term, making them odds-on favourites at 17/20 for the win.

Both teams will be relishing the prospect of what will be their first encounter against each other in top-flight football, as it illustrates just how far both clubs have come in recent times.

The Swans and Foxes last clashed in 2010-11, when the duo were still plying their trade in the Championship and, whilst Leicester just best the head-to-head record, Swansea have not lost to their competitors on home turf since 1986.

Garry Monk’s men began this Premier League season in fine fashion, enjoying back-to-back wins over Manchester United, Burnley and West Bromwich Albion. Since suffering defeat to Chelsea, however, the Swans have picked up just two points from their last four outings.

With Jordi Amat, Leon Britton and Dwight Tiendalli all sidelined for the home side, Monk may have to bank on his attacking options to secure three points in front of the Liberty faithful.

In a boost for the Swans, midfield magician Jonjo Shelvey will be available after serving a suspension, and is 5/1 to crown his return by scoring any time. Wilfried Bony has netted two in his last two, making the Ivory Coast attacker 7/1 to bag a brace or better. The in-form forward is also available in a marvellous matchday special, with Coral offering enticing odds of 3/1 for Bony to score and Swansea to win (maximum stake £20).

Gylfi Sigurdsson, who has provided a scintillating six assists and one goal in his eight league appearances, is also an exciting 11/4 to make the difference once more by netting anytime, whilst club leading marksman Nathan Dyer is also 8/1 to open the floodgates.

Swansea are not alone in hoping to get their Premier League campaign back on track, however, with visitors Leicester also stumbling recently.

Despite promising results against Everton and Arsenal, and a memorable 5-3 thrashing of the Red Devils at the King Power, Nigel Pearson’s side have collected just one point from their last three league games.

The Foxes had previously shown an impressive ability to sniff out results upon their return to the top flight, but have kept only one clean sheet in all competitions this campaign.

Whilst the goals were being provided by Leonardo Ulloa, who has netted five times in seven outings, the Midlands men were in high spirits. The Argentine attacker’s recent dry spell of three games, however, is a cause for concern and has coincided with the visitors’ slump.

Ulloa has illustrated he is more than just a poacher, however, and is still the Foxes’ biggest threat, making him 7/4 to score anytime. Top assistant Jamie Vardy, Man of the Match against the Red Devils, is also available at 8/1 to fire home first and turn in another inspiring performance.

Leicester, despite showing admirable spirit, have lost three from four away games in all competitions this season, and will need to improve their form on the road if they are to climb up the league table. The omens are not favourable for this turn-around to begin against Swansea, however, with the Welsh club jealously guarding their fine record of just one loss at the Liberty.
